I want to allow potential customers to register an interest for a product

Hi,

I run a merchandise ecommerce store. There are some new products that I want to launch, but I am not sure of the demand. I would like to add these products to my shopify store, but instead of customers getting the option to buy, I want them to have the option to register an interest (such as notify me etc), and for me to be able to track which product has how many such 'interests' registered. 

I am not fully sure of how to do this. Can it be done without using an app? It will also be helpful if someone can suggest an app (free is best) which can help me do this.

Hey @dornishviper @, I understand your situation. There are two ways we can do this. One is via app that you might not want to use then the second option is custom coding. 

Please let me know if you're familiar with custom coding like HTML, CSS and Liquid then I'll share the next steps or please consider consulting with a experience Shopify Developer.

Hey @dornishviper , sure. You need to build the logic. So, for now we can use product tags for it. Let's add preorder as product tag for those products that you want to check the interest. 

Then you'll need to show and hide the buy options and preorder form based on the product tag. For instance, if the product has the preorder tag then show the interest form else show the buy button. 

It'll require around 3-4 hours of work and significant knowledge if HTML, CSS and Liquid.

Hey there, @schoolofuke. Thanks for following up on this thread! We wanted to pass along some suggestion you can give a try! You can alter the product page template to include a 'Contact Us' Form instead of a 'Buy Now' section for this specific product. Or, you could set the product to 'digital', and make it free, so customers can 'purchase' it, and you can track interest that way!

Thanks Imogen! This could work very well for us, especially if we can use Klaviyo to automate an email response to each customer submission. If we used either of these methods, is there any way to tag each form submission or free sale so that the customer details can be routed to a specific customer list within Shopify?

I wouldn't be able to give you an answer on if this would work with Klaviyo, but I recommend contacting them directly. However, with the digital method, if you make it so the customers are required to create accounts, you can track interest that way, and then create a filtered customer list of all the customer that purchased this product. I don't believe you can preemptively create this report but possibly with a third party app but you can manually filter and create this customer lsit from the 'Customers' section in your admin. -Emily
