All things Shopify and commerce
Hi so I have shipping set up to calculate based on the product weight but I was going through the site testing and I noticed that If I try to check out with multiple things in my cart I get the error message:
"Shipping not available for the selected address"
this is only happening when I try to checkout with multiple things. If there's just 1 item in the cart it calculates shipping just fine.
Any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?
Hi @althda,
You can add the weight of both the products which is in the cart and make sure you have set the shipping rate for the calculated weight in the shipping settings.
Does it have to be based on weight? I am having the same issue. I have m shipping based on price not weight. I have all amounts covered and I have deleted all weight from products and it still is not working with 2 or more items. Thank you for any help you can provide.
Hi @SugarNails
It doesn't have to be based on weight. Shopify also lets you set conditions based on order price - i.e. the total order value. If you are looking for anything beyond that, such as product-specific prices, you would need to look at a third-party solution like Intuitive Shipping.
Can you please give an example of how it is currently working vs. how you need it to work? There might be some Shopify settings you can adjust. I might be able to provide some further insight with a bit more context about your situation. When you said "not working" I wasn't sure if you meant rates are not displaying at all, or they are just incorrect.
Best regards,
Ron
Hi @althda,
Do you have a maximum weight condition in place? Shopify's weight conditions are cart-based, so if your max is, say, 5 lbs, then shipping will not be calculated if the cart weight exceeds 5 lbs. So, if 1 item is 3 lbs, then 2x that item will exceed the limit.
Best regards,
Ron
Hi Ron,
I'm facing the same issue for my clothing business. I'm located in Canada and have chosen Canada Post for our shipping.
Our first launch is on 21 May and whenever I add more than 2 pieces of apparel in the cart, displays the error message
"SHIPPING IS NOT AVAILABLE/The items in your cart do not meet the price or weight requirements to qualify for shipping. Please modify your cart and try again."
Our original item weight is around 1-1.5 kg per piece. When I changed the item weight to 0, it allowed adding more than 2 and shipping was calculated then.
I'm guessing it has something to do with the weight?
I have not specified maximum weight anywhere.
The shipping method type I use is - Shopify default backup rates
Shipping per weight or per item price does not work for our products and I'd prefer Shopify default backup rates to work please.
I did read this somewhere but upon following the links could not understand anything.
If you are using Canada Post to ship internationally and you don't see shipping rates being displayed when fulfilling an order, then your packaging might not meet the requirements defined by Canada Post. For more information, see Parcel Services Shipping to the U.S.A. and to International Destinations."
Could you please help with a solution because my launch is in a day and cannot afford this error.

Thank you for your assistance!
Hi @regalveils,
Sorry for responding later than expected. Without knowing your exact setup and settings configurations, it's hard to say what might be causing this issue for you. Since Shopify only lets you use a 'default' box size, regardless of the order (a contentious issue in the community...), it might be that the package size is exceeding Canada Post limits somehow. One way to cross-check this is to go into your Canada Post account - or, if you're using their standard rates, go to their main website - and get a direct quote from them using the same box dims and total product weight you're using in your Shopify calculation. If you do not get a quote, then it's likely the package size is exceeding limits. If you get a quote from their site, then it has to be something else in your Shopify settings. In that case, your best course of action is to contact Shopify support directly and ask them to review your settings. Hopefully you are able to get this resolved without too much impact on your launch.
Best regards,
Ron
