In search of a Custom Product App

Hello!

We are making a website that is for a school. There are lots of different sports teams and we are going to be customizing jerseys for each team. We need a way for each jersey to be customized by adding the team number as well as the last name of each player. However, the website should function so that an app that is able to disable or hide already-taken numbers for a specific product, and possibly blocks checkout or shows a warning if duplicate is attempted.

Hi @sabrealey 👋 You'll likely need several apps or custom work from combining that many requirements making a unicorn 🦄.

Search the app store for product personalization, or product-options, type of apps.

However the complications of pseudo-limited-edition behavior, or also team level creation, isn't something most apps are going to support off the shelf.

team level creation could work like an order form customization with each item having 1 inventory in stock /shrug

So you'd likely need one that has it's own api as well and customize through that.

Or build it entirely custom.

If you don't need a high fidelity visual preview, this could be done with theme customizations and an automation app like mechanic to script custom api behavior to generate the products.

That sounds like a great setup for your school project.

Currently, Easify Product Options allows you to easily collect custom inputs like team number and player name — no coding needed. While it doesn't yet support real-time blocking of duplicate numbers, one possible workaround is to have a team representative fill out the jersey details for the whole team in a single order. That way, you can manage the numbers manually before checkout to avoid duplicates. Here's how the app can help you:

There are a bunch of custom product apps out there, but it really depends on what exactly you need to customize. If it’s just variants, something like Variant Option Product Options works well. For more advanced setups like personalized text or image uploads, You could also look into hiring a dev if your use case is super specific and none of the apps quite cut it.
