All things Shopify and commerce
Dear Shopify support staff, I just created my Shopify store for the purpose of testing to do my take-home assignment during the interview process (for an company that develop Shopify app). And I forgot to cancel the subscription before ending the 14-day trial. And here's what I get when cancelling the subscription "Invoice payment failed: Insufficient funds."
I've read in the community that I have to pay the bill first before cancelling my subscription. But I haven't spent anything on Shopify, could you please help?
Hey, @nhane123! Welcome to Shopify Community!
If you selected a subscription plan while you were on the trial period, your billing cycle automatically starts as soon as the trial ends to avoid any downtime. Since you're getting an invoice payment failed error while attempting to close your store, we can tell that the amount incurred when your trial ended did not go through and became an outstanding invoice.
Any outstanding invoices need to be settled before you can close your store. If you choose to do so, you'll need to update your billing method to one that can accommodate the payment. However, because you don't plan to use it anymore, you can simply just ignore the store. A total of three payment attempts will be made with an increment of 14 days in between. If the invoice is still unpaid after those attempts, the store and admin will become inaccessible until you choose to manually settle the invoice upon login. Therefore, it will be as good as a closed store.
All the best on your interview!

so youre saying i just forget about that store? and i wont be charged? and this wont bite me in the ass later?
Hey, @DanielFhima! Welcome to Shopify Community!
If your store is frozen, it's as good as a closed store so you will no longer be charged. Should you decide to reactivate your store in the future, you'll have to settle the outstanding bill, as well as a new invoice for the new billing cycle you're going to start. There's more information about frozen stores on this page.
Let me know if you have other questions about billing!

they tried now 6 different times but its still trying to charge me? what do i do if i cant even close the store?
Hey, @Ns1jack! Welcome to Shopify Community!
To give you some context, a store becomes frozen when you miss paying your Shopify subscription bill or if a payment fails eight times. You can wait for the eighth payment attempt to fail and leave the frozen store as is, or you can seek assistance in manually deactivating your store.
Can you tell me why you're unable to close your store?

What if I don't want to wait too long? I am too afraid that my money will be gone because I forgot to deactivate the store on time, now the store just wants to devour my 32 dollars. Why can't Shopify staff close the store if the owners give their permission? Why do I have to wait for so long to finally have more than 31 dollars in my credit? That's so silly gently speaking...
