Hi everyone,

Good day. We’re about to launch our website (theoutdoorarmory.com) and we would love to hear your insightful thoughts about having a dedicated e-mail for our Shopify website.

Currently, we are using theoutdoorarmory@gmail.com as our e-mail for our Shopify account. Our worry with that are two things: (1) the auto-generated replies for orders and e-mail blasts for newsletter subscribers would come off as unprofessional because they would be sent from a Gmail account, and (2) having a dedicated business domain e-mail would benefit us internally in the long term.

That said, would you please tell me if my above-mentioned worries are valid? If yes, which domain e-mail provider would you recommend?

We are eyeing on subscribing to Google Workspace which has dedicated domain e-mail address such as support@theoutdoorarmory.com . Moreover, we would benefit from shared cloud space.

Please tell me your thoughts.

Thanks in advance,

Hi @outdoorarmory,

Congratulations on getting ready to launch your website! It's an exciting milestone, and I totally understand why you're considering the switch to a dedicated business email. Let me share some insights based on your concerns.

1. Professionalism

You’re absolutely right that emails sent from a Gmail address may not look as professional as those from a domain-specific email (e.g., support@theoutdoorarmory.com). A dedicated email instantly signals credibility and legitimacy to your customers. When customers see communication coming from your brand’s domain, it builds trust, especially for order confirmations and newsletters. It reassures them that they’re dealing with an established business, not a casual setup.

2. Internal Benefits

Having a domain-specific email helps you streamline internal communications, especially as your business grows. For example, you can set up emails like orders@theoutdoorarmory.com or team@theoutdoorarmory.com for specific functions, making your operations more organized. Plus, it allows for easy onboarding of new team members down the road.

Google Workspace Recommendation

Google Workspace is an excellent choice for setting up a domain-specific email. Not only does it allow you to create a professional email address, but it also comes with tools like Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar, all integrated into one ecosystem. The shared cloud space is especially useful if you’re collaborating with a team or need to store important files securely.

Another advantage is that Google Workspace is user-friendly and offers a high level of deliverability for emails. This ensures that your newsletters and order confirmations are less likely to end up in spam folders, which is a common issue with some email providers.

Your Concerns Are Valid

Your worries are completely valid, and switching to a domain-specific email now is a smart move. It’s easier to set up early on than to make the change after you’ve started building relationships with customers using the Gmail address.

A Few Extra Tips

  • Set Up Email Forwarding: If you do switch, set up forwarding from your Gmail to your new email. This ensures you don’t miss messages from anyone still using your old address.
  • Consider Automation: Tools like Shopify Email will let you sync your new email for seamless automation, which is key for scaling your store’s communication.

Good luck with your launch, and I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Stay inspired,
Best regards,
