Hi i added the product with option in sizes & colors without SKU. Is there an issue with it or it's fine? what if i don't want to add the SKU?
so Shopify doesn't have any rule related to product & variant on SKU ?
Hi @samridhiNHN,
Although SKU is not a required field and Shopify doesn't have any rule related to variant SKU, it's still recommended to have SKUs.
SKU is used by retailers to identify and track their inventory, or stock. The purpose of SKUs is to help companies more accurately and quickly account for every piece of their inventory. In addition, it's also used to track reports on your sales.
There is no set way to create an SKU, but companies that develop their own system will want to have a method that everyone follows and understands so that it is easy to decipher the code.
You can refer to this Shopify documentation to set up your SKU.
I hope it helps.
In my case the SKU field is required.
Any suggestions as to what to do when I don't have an SKU?
I am using the product as a digital service not a physical product.
After doing a bit more research, I came across @amiddles response here: https://community.shopify.com/c/payments-shipping-and/how-do-you-handle-missing-sku-numbers/m-p/1801...
@amiddles suggests to make up your own SKU and provides his naming convention. Good stuff.
