All things Shopify and commerce
So Dawn lets you select a Featured Image. This is good. But then it uses that image as the header background. Not good for me. Here's why:
When I post the blog to Facebook, it uses the Featured Image. I would like to use a featured image that includes the title, but that looks like crap when it's recycled into the blog header.
Is there a way to include two images? One for Header and one for Featured? Both have value to me... but not if they are the same.
Here's an example of a featured image I'd like to use for Facebook:
Here's what I end up using because of that darned header:
Hopefully someone understands and can help me out. 🙂
Thanks in advance!
I need to dig into the Dawn theme code a bit. But I imagine you would do this with a little code editing and metafeilds. I do not see a way to do this without editing code. There is an option to change the size/ratio of the internal image through the settings. This might be a good temporary solution.
If you are interested in looking into those settings you will find them by following these steps:
>Online Store (click)
> Customize Button (click)
> (click) Search Bar and type in blog into the editor screen hit enter (this will open up your blog)
>(click) into a blog article
>(click) the banner image and try out the difference sizes shown in the menu.
This can also be customized more with CSS changes which is a bit easier than changing the logic of the page.
I agree that it's going to have to be coded. That's my downfall. I don't know this liquid crap.
Who here knows how to code this solution? Give me a quote. I'm not above asking the boss for a budget as long as it's reasonable.
So good news I did figure out how to get this to work where two different images can be uploaded. We can double check to make sure the styles work for you. Generally speaking with these templates they are using the aspect ratio for every single photo so usually just figuring out what that ratio is and designing a graphic that is suitable for the banner and then one suitable for the blog page (the main one you click into to see the blog) is usually the way to go. Weirdly, you have to save the blog before it will show the metafield but this I don't believe I can control. So essentially, You create the whole blog, click save, then the metafield pops up and will allow you to upload the other photo. Click save again and done. Not perfectly streamlined but works.
You can create a copy of your theme. I can make edits to that copy and if it works for you, you can then publish it. If your boss is willing to send over $30 for my time, that would be awesome! If it is a pain, don't worry about it, I like to help either way.
I'll get back to you asap. I have some stuff to finish for the boss man that's higher up the priority ladder before I ask him for money! 🙂
Haha alright well that sounds good. Anytime you want me to add in the code you can send me over the invite. I wont need money up-front or anything. My personal website is beaux.dev you can always contact me there as well. If you would prefer me to send the code over and give you steps - I can do that as well. If you guys ever need help with SEO/SEM or any of that jazz, I happen to be very in tune with the print on demand community which falls more into sublimation printing rather than screen printing but very similar customer base. Anyways, happy Friday and I will see you around!
I'm still looking for a solution for this if anyone wants to take a stab at it. Thanks in advance for your help.
