All things Shopify and commerce
This person made 79 accounts on my site, each from a different location. Anyone have any ideas? Is this going to raise my google ads amount? Is this person just doing this so my google amount goes up so I have to pay more? I don't understand, is it a bot?
Most likely it's just an automatic bot account creation, which is quite common on websites where there is an account registration form.
I just got 49 MArk Mustermann registering as well. I am deleting them all.
I don't have an account registration form - just a newsletter sign up on homepage. It's happened a second time this week. Just annoying cuz I have to manually delete from shopify and from my CRM tool too. Anyone know how to prevent?
How can we prevent them from doing this? We pay per email marketing activity so I don't want to be paying for a bot.
Ugh, this is so senseless. I got 50 in a few hours. I deleted them from Shopify and Klaviyo. Stupid bots.
I created a Segment in Klaviyo called Fake. I selected everyone with the last name Mustermann. And then I followed these steps: https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005073867-How-to-bulk-delete-or-suppress-email-contact...
I've done the same.
Created a segment in Klaviyo to capture anyone named "Mustermann."
Then make a note to delete those accounts in Klaivyo & Shopify once every couple of weeks.
Also looking forward to Shopify's resolution to blocking this bot.
it's a google bot.... testing your website? Google used to use John Smith... quite annoying made over 100+ customer accounts a day.... suddenly appears and then stops and appears again... we just delete them from Shopify and then from our email client because they subscribed....
I've had this happen as well. Is there anything negative to deleting all of the Mark Mustermanns off of my newsletter list? Won't they negatively affect open rates and ruin my data? I'm a small business so all these Mustermanns are a big part of my newsletter list.
I got 20 from this name today. Any solution?
This happened to me too. 84 accounts in a single day.
Shopify Support were not helpful. They told me they can't track down where on my site an account was created, and suggested I find an app to block fake accounts.
Shopify needs to stop always passing the buck by saying I can pay for an app. Some things just need to work on the platform without paying a third party and giving Shopify a cut of that.
I already had the "Spam protection" Google reCAPTCHA settings turned on when this happened, and it didn't protect me from having 84 accounts created within a minute.
I had 2 John Smith's 1 from California and one from Florida a month ago. Today I have 38 Mark Mustermanns. I am going to delete them from the customer list.
I have had 60 in two weeks. Annoying and
a waste of precious time
Mark Mustermann got my monthly newsletter to fail because of the bounce rate of fake emails. 55% of the actual subscribers got the newsletter and I lost any of the other possible sales. I was unaware this was going on until I started looking over the subscriber list.
Unacceptable Shopify. Should be an easy fix.
What is the name of the app? Thanks for this.
Me too. Seems like Shopify could add a simple filter to prevent this. Or have a domain deny function such as my CRM system has. And the HELP page should address this question. I spent too much time searching with no results. Was glad to see this discussion so I know I'm not alone.
Absolutely agree! It appears to easy to pass the buck.
I had Mark Mustermann just visit my site last night. Weird!
Yep happened to my last night 75 accounts
Me too is it bad to delete it?
He (Mark Mustermann) subscribed to my site with 6 different accounts just today.
I just noticed the same thing, and that lead me here. 20 Mark Mustermans, sometimes the same location repeated 2 or 3 times.
35 Mark Mustermann coming form different areas
happening to me also
This just happened to me too. Mark Mustermann
Same!!!! I went to create a segment for the united states and boom SO MANY in different cities... Can shopify do something about this? Is it a threat to our online stores?
Just deleted 35 accounts from my Klaviyo from this Thursday night. All diff cities. What on Earth.
Same. 49 times a few days ago. Deleted all. Did you folks recently submit your details through google or something? Cause I did this in the last two weeks and I'm wondering if it's a google thing.
Now that I think about it this may be it! I did just update my business info in google within the past week. But why?? This Mark Mustermann person made over 30 accounts using different locations and a fake email.
Ya this comes from Google because I was trying to create a Google ad which is super confusing and saw a ton of these Mark abandoned carts in my Shopify ugh
I'm glad to have found this post and wish I had seen it before starting a new thread, about the 50 abandoned checkouts I received last night, under the same name.
I had to password protect my store for a little over a week, so if it's just a google bot, it may explain things.
This just happened to me tonight! And yes, I set up Google ad campaigns this week (first time in 2 years) and have been deep diving into the analytics. I’m certain it triggered it
Same here. I had >100 Mark Mustermanns. How do we prevent this going forward? I'm worried about my email deliverability reputation getting trashed.
I had several Mark's added on 3/31. I just downloaded the customer data and called the phone number attached. It was an automated system that welcomed me to the Googleplex. Registered to Mountain View, CA, which is where Google is actually located.
same thing happened to me. Do you have any idea what this means ?
It happened to us today! 40+ accounts created for this person. I filtered them all out and deleted them, and Klaviyo automatically suppressed them for bounced emails. There has to be some way to prevent this!
45 created on 4/9
It happened to me a month ago with 38 accounts setup and 25 more today. They all had different addresses in several states under the name Mark Mustermann. I've deleted them all.
I just got 36 Mark Mustermans and 1 John Smith today. And I only just revamped my website - haven't really done anything with it in a while - today I scheduled posts.
I have had over 100 accounts made by Mark Mustermann. I deleted 75 accounts the first time, and I now have over 20 more of them. It's really getting out of hand.
Same, like 50 accounts same name all different cities in USA with fake email
Same thing too many to count and active carts going crazy, just deleted them all about 75-100, several batches.
Same! Second time...40 accounts in one day!
Deleted 54 accounts from Mr. Mark Mustermann today. Boy, has he got some muster! (Sorry, had to do it. 🐵
Hi - the same thing happened to me. Are you running Google Paid Search ads? I just started a few days ago and then I saw all these Mark Mustermann accounts being created. "He" literally went through the checkout process for just about every item in my store which really messes up my abandon cart recovery rate. If it is a Google bot, does anyone know if it will stop?
I think it's just a coincidence, my store are doing bad since Mr. Mustermann started to appear on the abandoned checkout
Shopify does NOT let you delete Abandoned Checkouts - So HOW in the world did you do this???
