Is anyone else having issues with extreme lag while trying to navigate your admin pages with Safari? It's almost unusable. Sometimes having to wait 20 - 30 seconds for everything to load before I can click into anything. Some of the drop down menus also have extreme lag. I know it's not my connection, because everything works fine on Chrome.

Hi everyone! Thank you to all who shared feedback on this and submitted reports of this being an issue. I wanted to confirm that our developers are aware that this is a problem some of our merchants are facing and are actively working towards a resolution.
As many of you have most likely done already as a work around, you should be able to use an alternative browser or you can also make the safari browser window narrow so that there is a horizontal scrolling bar when viewing admin pages with columns and rows (customers, orders, products).
I'll update this thread once I can confirm that this issue has been resolved.

Yes i am having this same issue, since around June... i am on Macbook Air with M1 / Apple silicon and its so much slower than it used to be. I have never had any issues with Shopify Admin in Safari but now its almost unusable. Seems like Apple or Shopify need to fix something... Chrome works ok for me still, but i prefer using safari.
Exactly the same here. I've had to move to Chrome to make it work.
i confirm
shopify on safari is terrible since 2 month
i'm using chrome as workaround but i hope they will fix
Same issue here. I have a few website that Safari says it uses significant memory. Shopify admin is basically unusable on Safari. Basically happened since I upgraded to macOS 12.4.
Anyone have an update?
Same as above. I have tried all the usual browser fixes but if this many of us are having the same problem then I think it is a Shopify issue not a Safari issue. I would love to keep working in Safari and not switch to Chrome. Please fix this!
Yes. I have to click and then wait for up to 10 seconds to make sure I don't accidentally click something unintentionally. I created a ticket and they said it looks up to speed but the main orders page takes a long time for everything to fill in before I can do anything.
I am experiencing the same issue on Monterey 12.5. The only workaround is to use chrome. It only happens in Shopify admin. major lag. I hope this gets fixed. tried turning off all extensions but still have the lag. tried on my mac mini m1 16gb ram and my MacBook pro m1 max.
I have exactly the same problem – I can no longer use Shopify admin as things stand. Shopify support are adamant the problem is at my end and must be my Mac. Clearly, given how many other are having the same problem, it's not my Mac...
Having the exact same issue. Running Safari Version 15.5 (17613.2.7.1.8). Using Chrome as the work around for now.
This morning i checked the Order page in admin and it's fast as normal... other pages like Products and Inventory are still slow.. but Order is normal speed now.. could someone else check this to confirm?
Same issue, happening on my M1 iMac but weirdly not on my M1 Macbook air.
Same for my on my MacBook Pro. The product page in the admin is unusable because of how long it takes to load. It is NOT my computer because the RAM isn’t ever stressed at all while it’s loading. It also works fine on Chrome but, like everyone else, I prefer Safari. There shouldn’t be any question with everyone else chiming in, but I also am positive it isn’t my computer because I dual boot Windows 10 on the same machine. Using the Windows boot partition which has less HD space allocated to it on Chrome I get zero lag. It’s unbearable on Safari now. Something needs to be done.
I'm thinking it has something to do with the black field that shows sell through rate. On a side note, the admin seems to work fine on my iPad with no lag. It's definitely a MacOS Safari issue.
Same here. Experiencing the same with Klaviyo, too. Am using Chrome/Brave as a workaround for both.
OCMike thought it was just me until I found this thread--having exactly the same issue and occurring at about the same time others started having the experience (Macbook Pro 12.4 OS w/Safari 15.5). Product admin section the slowest but all of the admin lags. I noticed this started occurring the time I logged into the new "summer '22" edition in June. Chrome works fine but like so many others I prefer Safari as well for my workflow. Did you solve your issues?
At the risk of revealing my ignorance (!), where might a fix for this come from, Shopify or Apple...?
Can confirm as of 1 AUG it is still unbearably slow. Shopify backend is running something that isn't jiving with Safari.
Yep. I had another OSX update yesterday and the problem is still there. Shopify seems to be ignoring this and it’s infuriating.
Very slow here too on latest Mac version & Safari.
WAY faster to get things done on my iPhone through the app,
but very frustrating trying to process, check orders or do maintenance on our website on the Mac w Safari because of the lag time on everything.
from further use on safari. It seems like that new real-time tracker bar is causing the majority of my slow down. can anyone else test and confirm if they are having these issues too?
The live tracker bar is always the last thing to load for me. And I have no interest in it even being there. If I want to look at that info, I can go to the dedicated page. I don’t need it there for any reason.
Same for me, extremely Slow - running on Safari 15.5. Almost not usable, everything fine in Chrome!
It is not just Apple products and Safari having issues. We have multiple PC's and even on Chrome, the system is very laggy and often get 'No page at this address' even just to load products.
Shopify has probably cut connection speed to accounts that don't opt in for the $2000/mo Plus account. Shopify has been nothing but troubles for our account. Now you don't even get to speak to a person unless opting in for the Plus account at $2k / mo. For $300 / mo you get to post to forums and 'hope' there is a response/resolution... Simply disgusted with Shopify of late.
Chiming in to say it's been super slow and unusable for few months. Running a MacBook Pro M1 Pro
Same issue for about a month now maybe more. Shopify has yet to acknowledge as far as I can tell.
Same exact issue. Using Safari 15.6. Everything is extremely slow.
Chrome seems to work fine, but we prefer to use Safari.
Chat support says they're reaching out to tech to see if there's a fix. Hopefully they can do something.
@Shopify Is there a fix being worked on?
Shopify is becoming unusable on Safari and they are not doing anything to fix it. This is insane, you can barely use the admin unless you download chrome. It would be wise for them to fix this or partner with apple to see what's wrong.
Just chiming in to say Shopify is basically unusable in Safari and it's the only browser I intend to use. Please do something to fix?
Same issue here. It's unbearable. I shouldn't have to switch browsers to access Shopify. Something needs to be done. This is horrible.
I just did the update to 12.5.1 and it's much better than it was with the product listing search in the admin (that stupid, useless ticker bar at the top still seems to be strangling the initial load of the page though - they need to nix that or give an option not to show it. Who's looking at analytics when they're searching to update a product page anyway?). I haven't ventured much outside of that, but if you have the option to update, go ahead and do it.
Not to me...
I'm still having same lag after 12.5.1 update. that real time tracker bar and floating row bar is causing major lag with Safari. Frustrating that Safari/Shopify admin is no longer useable. Chromium based browsers have no issues.
Same here! I can't use Shopify with Safari anymore 😞
As usual Shopify will take forever to fix an issue like that. I am not even going to contact them (not waisting my time with them anymore).
Genuine question: it seems odd that Shopify doesn't appear to be rushing to fix this. Could they have some kind of vested interest in pushing users towards Chrome? I'm using it under protest because it's the only way I can access the admin of the shop I pay them for.
They definitely prefer Chrome. They've been soliciting me to upgrade to Shopify Plus (which costs 7 times as much as I currently pay) and I told the rep I would never consider it while this Safari problem exists, and without acknowledging the issue simply started talking up that Chrome is ideal for admin, since more people use it.
Interesting. I need to change my store from retail to wholesale and am researching various apps but I have to say, I resent going ahead and paying more than I already do if I can't even use my preferred browser.
Any fix for this.
Count me as another person with the same problem. It is cripplingly slow. Same across three Macs - M1 Ultra Studio, M2 Air, and old Intel iMac. It's embarrassing that this has gone on so long and they have not fixed it.
+1 more for this issue (iMac / Safari)
Yup, having this problem on Safari on a Mac, and chrome on a windows machine. Its no different.
I can confirm that I am experiencing the same thing. MacOS Monterey 12.5.1 with the M1 chip and 16gb memory. Safari is very slow at loading Shopify admin functions.
Yes, it's still painfully slow here on Safari (same on both MBP and iMac). Switched to Chrome when I need to.
I have an M1 Ultra Mac Studio with 128 GB of ram. If I try to full-screen the admin with safari, it won't load a new page. It's so slow and buggy. I have to use admin in a tiny window for it to work, or I have to switch browsers which I don't like using chrome. This is beyond irritating that Shopify does nothing.
This has gotten untenable. Shopify user for over a decade. All my Macs, multiple versions of safari, several versions of OS X, tested on multiple connections. The Shopify Admin has never been this slow - it's literally unusable.
I have been a cheerleader for Shopify since I started using it in 2012, and a Shopify dev for years. The speed of the admin sucks in Safari, and I won't be recommending Shopify to any Mac users until this is fixed. Most of us have no interest in switching to Chrome.
I've just lost a good 15 minutes of work changing skus because of this issue.
Not happy.
Yep been with Shopify 12 years. Even an investor. Signs are pointing to slipping and ignoring basic functionality in search of constant new revenue streams after years of being a quality platform. Will be looking to defect if they don't address the problem soon. You hear that Shopify, are you listening? You're losing the plot...
Yes, extremely slow, to a point I feel like changing platforms to something else. I don't like using other browsers.
Woo Ecommerce is an excellent Option. All the tools to migrate to them from Shopify quickly are available. Currently, the time to migrate would be easier than dealing with Shopify issues on the daily.
Woo just has a difference in payment providers if you all care to check that stuff out.
I'm seriously considering recommending we LEAVE Shopify and migrate to Woo. As the Operations and IT member with our company, I'm constantly frustrated with Shopify and their lack of ability to address these types of problems quickly.
I'm doing more legwork to find out more about my needs with WOO Ecom. I will advise if any flags outside of the Payment Provider difference.
Thanks Shopify!
Given the lack of a response from Shopify thus far, I can't say I'm hopeful of this being fixed any day soon and I need to start building a wholesale shop for my products. Has anyone heard about any viable alternatives to Shopify? Preferably ones that will allow me to carry on using Safari? Also, is there anywhere else we can register our dissatisfaction, besides here?
