All things Shopify and commerce
Hi, everyone.
Yesterday, I got this email about policy violations of the SAUP and the risk of my store being shut down.
Naturally, I was worried. So I clicked on the link and it took me to a Telegram chat where the following convo took place.
When this person asked me to shell out, $50 USD for an antivirus software I never even heard of, that's when my alarm bells started going off.
My gut feeling is telling me that there is something deeply suspicious going on here. I feel very uneasy.
I looked up the antivirus software and I couldn't find it.
I also looked up the email address for primesolutionsagency@gmail.com. AND NOTHING CAME UP.
I'm worried now because I feel like I fell for a trick.
Is this real? Should I report it?
Please give feedback ASAP.
Thanks,
Micah.

Disable image loading in your email client, when an email is opened images can be used to signal an email address is active and engages with scammers.
Look for any cybersecurity related courses/electives at a local business college or similar.
Alarms should have went off when the email wasn't from a shopify owned domain and then again when it was a chat system also not on a shopify owned domain.
That they even got you to click the link or entertain chat with them means you've indicated your susceptible to further scams , crude or more sophisticated, and your email will get put on more scammers lists.

Hi Micah
@PaulNewton said everything, but I have to add one thing.
You said "Naturally, I was worried. So I clicked on the link" but it should be "Naturally, I was worried. And I will never click a link in an email without a bit of investigation" And you noticed the sender's email does come from Gmail so why didn't you just search on Google "shopify email compliance issue" or something like that? You will find dozens of topics on this forum that have Scam in the title.
But that sense of urgency is how a lot of scammers try to make you click a link and get into chat. Please search on YouTube for
Everyone should read and remember the first part:
You said "Naturally, I was worried. So I clicked on the link" but it should be "Naturally, I was worried. And I will never click a link in an email without a bit of investigation"
Please, think before clicking on any links that seem even remotely suspicious. In other words - don't.
It's a scam
