Is this email from a claimed eCommerce expert legitimate?

I received an email via my Shopify store link from someone claiming to be a Shopify Expert.  This person sounded legit but then when it came to actually offering suggestions / tips and latest features the person asked for my Whatsapp or Instagram.  I've seen this scam in the past about further communication being pushed over to other forms of social media and wanted to get some input before I forage ahead with this.

Hi @MAKEITSPARKLE ,
This is Theodore from PageFly - Shopify Page Builder App.

The email you received likely is a scam. Here's why:

  • Shopify Experts use official channels: They communicate through the Shopify Experts Marketplace or Help Center, not social media.
  • Transparency is key: Legitimate experts are upfront about services, qualifications, and pricing.

What to do:

  • Don't respond.
  • Report the incident to Shopify support.
  • Find verified experts: Use the official Shopify Experts Marketplace with reviews and certifications.

Stay safe:

  • Avoid upfront payments without clear proposals.
  • Keep communication within the Shopify platform.

Best regards,
Theodore | PageFly
