Hello @DanielHW
There are a lot of freelancers/agency out there, who gets the data of Shopify website from somewhere and they reach to specific Shopify merchants via Shopify inbox (live chat) to sell their service.
I would suggest hiring a Shopify expert from https://experts.shopify.com/ if you are really in need of or looking for some help with your Shopify store.
Hi @DanielHW
Welcome to the Shopify Community!
I understand that you have some concerns about messages you have received. Well done for being vigilant and seeking advice first, it shows you are responsible and cautious which are great traits to have! It's understandable to be wary of such messages, as unfortunately there are people online who may not be trustworthy. It's important to be cautious when dealing with any unsolicited offers of help.
There's a couple of things to consider when evaluating the legitimacy of any messages received. Always check to see if they have a genuine name and company/organization for example. Take a look into their credentials and experience. Are they a proven expert in the field, with a track record of success? Besides giving their word, can they provide references from satisfied clients?
For any messages you receive, consider the tone and language used in the message. Check for professional language, and be wary of outrageous claims or promises. Any requests for payment, personal information, or access to your Shopify account details would be an immediate red flag - never give out this type of information to anyone. It's also important to make sure your Shopify account is secure; two-factor authentication is recommended. Never add someone as a member of staff on your store unless you trust them.
As @magecomp has suggested, if you are interesting in finding a trusted and reputable Shopify consultant who can assist you with your store, we would always recommend hiring someone from our Shopify Experts website here. Shopify Experts have demonstrated expertise in working with the platform and they meet Shopify's standards for quality and customer service.

I had messages like that too. I didn’t feel easy about the emails so I deleted them. I got scammed twice and I can see the red flags! I know who they are…
Now, I only hire Shopify Experts under Shopify registry partners.
