Hey there, @Nukgets

Bo here from Shopify Support.

While only using PayPal is not necessarily a bad idea it will be closing off part of the market for you. As popular as PayPal has become, not everyone has a PayPal account and our PayPal Express checkout does require your customer to sign in to their PayPal account in order to checkout. Some people simply prefer paying by credit card and when they see that this is not an option on your store they may abandon the checkout altogether to find a similar product elsewhere.

I would highly recommend that you take a look at the available payment gateways for your location here to maximize your conversions.

Please let me know if you have any further questions, I am more than happy to help!

All the Best,

Bo

Hi,

I'm brand new to Shopify, setting up my store now. I've had the store almost 9 years on StoresOnline, and I'm moving to Shopify. With StoresOnline, people can opt to pay by Credit Card OR Paypal. It sounds from what you are saying that the two are mutually exclusive? It's one or the other?

Thanks,

Sarah

Hey there, @Catsmom

Good question. Sorry if it was unclear. Yes, you can have PayPal along with another credit card processor. PayPal will allow your customers to pay with their PayPal account while the second payment gateway will take card transactions. You can take a look at the payment gateway options that are available to you, here.

All the Best,

Bo

Hi Bo,
Thanks very much for the reply. I noticed that the company I have been
using for the past 8 years -- Propay -- is not on your list of credit card
processors so I called them and they said "We are not affiliated with
Shopify." Thus will end a lovely 8-year relationship. I see a list of
options but does Shopify recommend a company for the credit card
processing? Does it have a fav?

Thanks in advance,
Sarah

Thanks for getting back to me! I would have to say that Shopify Payments, our own credit card processor would be the best. Shopify Payments is the simplest way to accept payments online. It eliminates the hassle of setting up a third-party payment provider or merchant account and having to enter the credentials into Shopify. With Shopify Payments, you're automatically set up to accept all major payment methods as soon as you create your Shopify store.

Shopify Payments is available only to stores in certain countries and regions. With Shopify Payments you're automatically set up to accept all major payment methods as soon as you create your Shopify store. Use the following list to find out if Shopify Payments is available in the country where your business operates:

Thank you Bo. Does Shopify Payments have a card reader and/or an app which
work with a tablet or phone so we can take cards when we sell products, for
example, at trade shows?

Hey there, @Catsmom

Great question! Shopify does come with a Point of Sale app which you could use at trade shows etc. You can read up on how all of this works right here. We also do have compatible hardware such as card readers, all of which can be found in our hardware store here.

Let me know how this goes and if there is anything else I can assist you with, I'm happy to help!

Hi Bo,

I'm finally getting back to you on this one. I really appreciate all your help. I've got 6 weeks to get a lot done, don't be surprised if I come back, especially now I have found a helpful resource in yourself.

Cheers,

Sarah

Hi again -- never mind. I found out that because one of the cat calming treats we sell contains melatonin, we are blocked from using the Shoppify Payments app. Go figure.

Thanks anyway.

Hi Bo,

Sorry to bother you again. I went through the set-up to add Shopify Payments and when I got all done, it popped up this on the page: "Your shop is not eligible for Shopify Payments." Why would that be? Because it isn't live yet? I would think this would need to be done before going live, especially as I set it up for test mode?

Thanks!

Sarah

We just started our app - 3P ‑ Your Paypal Protection which was made to verify if customer used the same email for payment in PayPal as he use in your store. It will protect your store from payments made with stolen PayPals. Mandatory app for for selling digital items.

I'd sure like to know how to fix my shop.  I don't have a clue as to why it's not allowing me to use shopify payments as I don't think I did anything wrong.  May be I just turned off a feature that is required?

Hello @Nukgets

You had a good question though! Now, can you please share what you decided to use at last, and what about your experience using that?

Thank you.

It depends on your targeted customers, if they're more popular with PayPal then only PayPal is enough, Else you should use one other payment gateway too!

Using Paypal is a bad idea, Paypal is a dishonest company, like Ponzi Scheme II. According to many user reviews that Paypal uses the trick of banning accounts and hold the money of many online seller's for more than 180 days by accusing the account holders have violations to user agreements (without specifying which agreement users have violated) some victims doubt that Paypal use this trick to use money of users on other investments and increase cashflow.

very bad option! PayPal bans accounts randomly to seize their funds for at least 180days with no warning nor specific reason. PayPal would say the a/c holder has violation of user agreement.

After your a/c has been suddenly limited, you will not able to refund to the customers' PayPal a/c. Damaging your shopify store's goodwill and trust from customers..
