All things Shopify and commerce
Currently I am using Bold for my recurring orders, been a customer for 10 years. Apparently, there have been some changes in Shopify where they no longer allow 3rd party access to the checkout. Bold V1 worked perfectly for our needs and now moving to V2 we have this severe limitation.
When a customer creates a recurring order, the shipping method can't be stored and it defaults, according to Bold, to the cheapest option. We use different shipping methods depending on temperature as I am shipping live insects. What I am seeing is that it just defaults to the top shipping option in my list of shipping options (which can't be ordered). For example, I have two options that are the same price but one is delivered and one is hold at the post office. It will always use the delivered option. What is worse, is that if they need a heat pack or a liner which costs more in shipping due to weight, this is no longer used, and it defaults to the cheaper delivered option which will not work.
I don't understand why Shopify would remove a critical feature for recurring orders. It won't even default to the option that was selected for the first order which at minimum should be done. Did Shopify do this because they want to upsell Shopify Plus? In any case it is causing major issues as there is no way to change the shipping option for recurring orders, which needs to be done based on the weather which the customer can control. The original bold V1 app didn't have this issue, and it was working perfectly but now that Shopify has made changes, it no longer works.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and what workarounds if any they have come up with. Or maybe there is a better app and Bold is full of it and won't make the changes to do whatever it takes to make this work. I do know that Shopify has in fact disallowed 3rd party checkout apps, but they do allow 3rd party shipping options access for professional plans.
I have been on Shopify for 15 years and am looking into a platform that doesn’t have this limitation if this issue can’t be resolved. I can’t support a company that severely hampers my business. There was no need to make this change unless it is for some greedy reason!
Looking for advice.
Thank you!
