Limit one per customer (and NOT per checkout)

I have a item which I only want sold one per customer. 
I tried minmaxify which works (customer can't checkout with two items) but they can just complete the purchase for one item and then buy it again (ie minmaxify just limits the item being checked out)

Is there a way that it check the account history to see if they previously purchased it, and if so, they can't purchase again?

Hey, @kerchief 

An alternative solution to using a paid third-party app would be to use a discount code instead (set to a discount of 0%). This way you can have a discount URL and limit the discount usage to once per customer. The URL of a discount code is in the following format:

www.yoursite.com/discount/yourdiscountcode?redirect=/products/yourproduct

I was also able to find an alternative third-party app called Shopify Limit Qty Purchase by MageComp. This app allows you to limit the purchase by a customer. So that you can set up the Maximum Qty that can be purchased for a lifetime by the individual customer.
