All things Shopify and commerce
Hey, I’ve had my website with handmade candles and wax melts for almost a year now. Whenever I look at the product editing area where the publishing section shows ‘Sales Channels,’ I see green dots for my online store, point of sale, Facebook, and Instagram. However, for Google and YouTube, there’s a notification saying ‘Limited performance due to missing identifiers (GTIN, MPN, brand) in Shopping ads in the US,’ and it says to ‘fix the error.’
I searched online and even asked ChatGPT if candles need a GTIN, and the answer was that I don’t necessarily need one. When I checked Google Merchant Center, I noticed that my products are both approved and not approved at the same time.
Another thing to mention is that I have a translated version of my website in another language, and I’m unsure if this is causing duplicate product listings, which might be affecting performance. Some of my products show up in Google Search in the original English version, while others appear only in the translated version.
I’ve gone through all my products in Google Merchant Center and selected ‘I don’t have a GTIN’ under the product settings, marking them as ‘one-of-a-kind or vintage products with no identifier.’ However, the notification still appears on my Shopify website, and I’m not sure if this issue needs to be fixed or if it’s impacting how my products are shown on Google.
I’d really appreciate any advice on what to do next to ensure my products are performing well.

I did not read your message, I looked at the image you shared, that said image under review.
Ask yourself the following.
Do you have a demand gen ad in Google Ads? if no, ignore the message.
If yes, then check your iamges for text, or images that can be perceived as text and remove them.
Also check titles that contain political, sexual or healthcare related words, that if taken out of context flags this as an issue.
So if you are not using demand gen, it's a waste of your time to fix it, because you don't gain anything.
Have a look at the video below, that will resolve your issues (in most cases)
Thank you! I saw another video before your reply, and I did something similar, but only with:
If identifier has no value yet › Apply default rule: Take from: Content API Change.
Now I don't see those notifications anymore in Google Merchant Center, but they’re still showing in Shopify on the right corner of Sales Channels. Do I still need to add all the rules you showed in the video?
The correct rule would be based on GTIN, as the product identifier is not a validation that GTIN is added or not. Because you can add barcodes and set identifier exists to no.
So the logic is not correct.
However, if at the moment it is working for you that is fine. Just if you want to avoid future issues, base it of GTIN.
Ok, I’ve followed all the rules from your video. I don’t have any errors in Google Merchant Center, but they’re still showing on Shopify. Could this be a bug, or will they disappear eventually?
Ignore Shopify, it's in this case a 3rd party. Meaning it will not have up to date or accurate info.
If you want to solve issues, read issues etc, always use Google Merchant Center.
Thank you! I have one more question: all my products in Google Merchant Center are approved and have no issues, but when I go to edit a product, I see a message that says my image is under review. The last time I added new products was 3 weeks ago. Why are they still under review?
On some other products, I see this message:
"Invalid attribute value. Your product details don't meet the requirements for Demand Gen ads. If you disagree, request a review in Merchant Center. Note that if you've only recently set up ad campaigns, the option to request a review will be available in a few days."
What could be the reason for this?
Image processing takes up to 1.5 months
I have these massages on some of my products that are available on my website for a year
