Manual Credit Card Entry creating split payments

Whenever I use manual credit card entry in Shopify POS, it turns the transaction into a split payment and I don't understand why. It's not a huge deal, I just proceed with the transaction BUT it's confusing for our part time staff who aren't in POS every day. Anyone else ever have this issue?
