Multi-Item Orders & Shipping

I feel like this is a stupid question but after all this time, shipping still baffles me.

I recently had an order placed for 3 items. All three were set up in different shipping categories based on their size and the type of box that they would need to fit within. That's not to say all three items couldn't fit in one larger box. The shipping price was 2/3s of the total of the items. NOT okay. I brought the total shipping price down by moving one item to a different shipping rate. It was still high but not like the original shipping cost.

Here's the issue:

- Each of these items has its own shipping rate because they each fit best in a different size box individually.

- Shopify adds those different shipping rates together at checkout causing a massive shipping fee.

- Is there a way to have the items added together in one box without the astronomical sum of each shipping fee? Or does anyone know of a good workaround?

The items need to have their own shipping rates because they are frequently bought individually and with other items.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Whitney_Morman,

When using multiple shipping profiles, if orders contain products from different profiles, this will result in combined rates at the checkout. At this time, there is no way to disable combined rates natively if you have multiple shipping profiles. Ultimately this feature is in place to ensure merchants don't end up over paying for shipping when customers order products from multiple profiles or locations.

One of the workaround for your issue is to add your products in a single shipping profile and use an app like the Multi Carrier Shipping Label. With the app, you can add both product weight & dimensions. Also, the app allows you to add custom boxes based on your product dimensions & weight. With the advanced packaging method in the app, it will automatically choose the right box that can fit all the products orders by your customers and display accurate shipping rates based on these values.
