Multiple Locations Transferring items in for Pickup

Multiple Locations Transferring items in for Pickup

The problem:
We have multiple warehouses, with stock in multiple locations.
We also offer local pickup at one location (with more coming).

We wish to be able to offer local pickup on ALL items, with a cost of transfer applicable depending on location.

This needs to be a seemless experience for customers on checkout, not two orders.

Example 1:
We have 'Item A' in QLD, and offer local pickup for 'Item B' in Perth.

Transfer cost from 'Item A' to Perth is $20

Customer wishes to purchase 'Item A' & 'Item B'.

He adds these items to checkout, it needs to show Local Pickup Available with $20 transfer cost.

Problem 2. Editing combined shipping rate descriptions

When two items from different locations are added to the cart, the shipping description is just "shipping" and doesnt seem editable.

Example 2: As a workaround trying a free shipping charge in Perth, if you add 'Item A' and 'Item B' to one cart it combines shipping rates on checkout (once you add both items) and displays a shipping rate without a description. This can be confusing when customers attempting to do pickup.

If we could edit this shipping rate it would also be possible to have a work around.

Hello @PPDPaul

Shipping rates for multi-location cart is a bit complex since Shopify considers each location item as an independent order. For multi-locations carts, Shopify combines the shipping rates for each location and displays a generic shipping rate name "Shipping" - if the shipping rate names for each location is different.

We might be able to help you resolve this with a custom solution using our app JsRates (https://apps.shopify.com/jsrates-shipping-rates). If you are keen, contact us on support@jsrates.com to discuss this in more detail. We are located in Melbourne, Australia. Our app has a free demo plan; and we offer free setup service. I also assumed your store is not on Shopify Basic plan - your store needs to have the third-party carrier calculated shipping (CCS) feature to display calculated rates at checkout (available on higher Shopify plans).

Hi @PPDPaul,

This is a use case for Shipping Discounts Function API. That would solve for combined shipping rates for mixed carts.

I can figure out a solution for you whether it’s custom or something in the App Store first I would need to test this scenario on your shop.

Drop me a PM so we can exchange info, if you haven’t already setup a dev shop I can help you with that.

Hello @PPDPaul,

Earlier suggested apps for customized shipping rates can be an option. Other than that - you will end up with an app development in the budget of 2,500-3,500 USD. So, if the app creator says their app can cover it - you should consider.
