All things Shopify and commerce
My website sells a physical product and only ships within Australia at the moment. Ads are only targeting Australia. I have had multiple visits to the site from a city named Council Buffs in Ohio, US. Every week.
What are your thoughts on this?
- do you think it's related to software someone is using to extract/track data from the website?
- anything I should be concerned about?
- anything I should be/could be doing about this?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Hi @Stephen
This is Glass It, a price tracker solution that can help boost your profit margins. Based on your description of the visitor, we need more information to determine what the visitor's intention is when visiting your store from another country. One scenario I could think of, based on the info you provided:
1. You have a foreign visitor interested in your store or products, given they visited multiple times. They could have family or travel to Australia often, or perhaps just know someone there, and be interested in purchasing an item from you
Question, what page(s) are they visiting? Are the pages they view always the same product/category? This could help answer their intention when visiting your store
Generally speaking publicly available online websites will get visitors from all over the world. Since people can travel it varies, but yes generally the majority traffic share comes from your target market
Hello @Stephen567,
Welcome to Shopify Community!
It is not uncommon for websites to receive traffic from locations outside of their target audience.
There could be a number of reasons for this, including:
Search engine queries: Someone in Council Bluffs, Ohio may have searched for a product or service related to your website, and your website happened to appear in the search results.
Referral traffic: Your website may have received traffic from another website that linked to your site, or from social media platforms where your content was shared.
Software tracking: It is possible that someone in Council Bluffs, Ohio is using software to track data from your website, but it's difficult to say for sure without more information.
It is generally not a cause for concern if you are receiving a small amount of traffic from locations outside of your target audience.
However, if you are concerned about this traffic, there are a few things you can do:
Use Google Analytics to see where your traffic is coming from and analyze the behavior of your visitors. This can help you understand more about your audience and identify any patterns in the data.
Use the "Geo-targeting" feature in Google Ads to target specific countries or regions with your ads. This will help ensure that your ads are only shown to people in the locations you want to target.
Consider implementing IP blocking to block traffic from specific countries or regions. This can be done through your server's .htaccess file or through a third-party plugins.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.
