All things Shopify and commerce
My website has stopped loading for iphone all of sudden. I have tried disabling the apps one at time and tested it but is not working. Is there any new ios update or policy change which has multiple webistes or anyone having the same problem?
Hello Sakshi,
First of all, want to tell you that if your Shopify website suddenly stopped loading on iPhones, you're not alone!
This issue has been reported by various site owners, and it could stem from a few different causes, including recent iOS updates or compatibility issues with certain features.
Here are a few likely reasons and troubleshooting steps that could help you pinpoint and solve the issue:
Apple frequently releases updates that can sometimes impact how websites load, especially if the update includes changes to Safari, WebKit (the engine Safari is built on), or overall security settings.
Recently, updates like iOS 17 have introduced new privacy features and enhancements that could interfere with some website functionalities.
Be sure to keep an eye on Apple’s developer updates to check if any new changes affect website compatibility.
Sometimes, an accumulation of cached data or cookies can cause loading problems. Encourage your users to try clearing their browser cache and cookies by going to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.
You can also try this on your own device to see if it fixes the issue.
While you’ve already tested by disabling apps one at a time, keep in mind that certain third-party scripts (not just apps) can also cause loading issues. Ensure that your theme and custom code aren’t introducing conflicts.
You can use Shopify’s Theme Inspector for Chrome to identify any problematic code that could be causing slow load times or outright failures on specific devices.
Apple has increased its security protocols, and now Safari may restrict access to sites that don’t meet certain security standards. Check that your SSL certificate is valid and up to date.
Shopify automatically provides SSL for all domains, but if you’ve recently added custom scripts or integrated third-party apps, verify that they are also secure and do not conflict with Shopify’s SSL.
Sometimes, an update to your theme or Shopify’s platform could unintentionally alter how your site looks and functions on mobile devices.
Check your theme’s mobile settings under Online Store > Themes > Customize and test different layout options to see if one resolves the loading issue on iPhones.
If possible, test your site on various iPhone models and iOS versions. This can help identify whether the issue is isolated to a specific iOS version.
A tool like BrowserStack can simulate various iOS devices and may help spot inconsistencies in how your site loads across different versions.
Shopify’s support team can provide valuable insights, especially if other store owners report similar issues. You can also check Apple’s developer forums to see if any specific update or change might be causing problems. They are a helpful resource for troubleshooting iOS-specific loading issues.
If you’ve tried all these steps and the issue persists, it may be best to seek assistance from a Shopify expert. They can help dig into the technical aspects of your site to uncover any hidden conflicts that could be causing the problem.
In the meantime, continue monitoring updates from both Shopify and Apple, as platform or policy updates could introduce new resolutions or insights into the root cause.
