question 2
what happen if I share my store password with someone else,
can they hack my store, mess with it or anything negative?
question 3
how come the experts here are only need is URL of the store and they can fix the issue whatever it is, are they that kind of knowledgeable?
thank you and please forgive me for my questions haha.
Hi @xSon
I can answer those question as:
1. The CSS code is only for style website look and feel so those code can't hack your store
2. if you only share your storefront password this mean no one can hack your site. They can see the site look & feel at browser
3. When you provide your store url it will help us can see which issue actual occuring on your store & which HTML selector have issue to we can provide you the solution.
That's all.
Hi @xSon
I see you keep asking questions and learning, that is good 🙂
Question 1: In 99% of cases, CSS code is safe. Just be careful if you copy some code that has a link to an image somewhere. That image could, in some cases, hold some other data that would not be safe. But in general, it is highly unlikely to have any issues.
Question 2: Do not share your store password and your account to admin, that way you give complete access to everything, so payment, credit card , and also user info and code. If you want to share, then use a collaborator account:
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/users/security/collaborator-accounts
Note that help.shopify.com has a lot of useful info and when you have some doubt search there first.
Question 3 : Depends, there are mostly CSS and JavaScript question that you can see by just visiting store and inspecting elements and using console.
It is a practice of using the tools you have and applying knowledge about CSS/JS. You have to learn it once but then practice. I have sent you a short video on use of Chrome developer tools.
And do not apologise for asking questions and wanting to learn.
thank you to both of you @BiDeal-Discount and @Laza_Binaery for acknowledging my presence.
Copying CSS code from others is not dangerous, because there is no chance for this type of file to run malware— but it’s still a good idea to copy from known sources only; otherwise you might get some badly-written CSS or references to external files that track your users (or slow down your site).
Sharing passwords is very different. When you share your password with someone else, you are giving them complete control over your store– they could change things, delete everything, or even steal from you.
If you need help with something on your site and want to give someone else access consider these two options first: use temporary access features; or enable two-factor authentication.
Hi @xSon
Let me help answer your three questions one by one:
1. If I copy and paste the CSS code from someone else here, in my CSS editor, can they hack my store, mess with it, or anything negative?
Answer: Absolutely no. CSS is used to change the pattern and design on the store. Your store content will not be messy by using the code from others.
2. What happens if I share my store password with someone else? Can they hack my store, mess with it, or anything negative?
Answer: The one who gets your store password can only check or view store page contents, but cannot hack your store, mess with your store, or further negative effects, because they have no access to the store admin. The store admin is controlled by the Shopify admin page and only you or the store owner has access to it.
3. How come the experts here only need is URL of the store and they can fix the issue, whatever it is, are they that kind of knowledgeable?
Answer: The experts here can see your store contents and UI to know if the page is designed well or not. Moreover, they can get more details under the Inspection view page or the source code page to make further analysis. Therefore, they can get more professional ideas for the store.
If you would like to get some ideas on the store, you can also share the store URL here, and I will give you some feedback accordingly. Thank you!
