How can I show a 'already subscribed' message in my newsletter footer?

I have newsletter in footer. when someone use email and subscribe it it shows "thanks for subscribing" but when same person subscribe it again using same email it does not show message of "subscribed already". 

I want this message to appear

Please help me out!!
