I don't understand why this is happening... I even got friends to try it for me because I had this feeling that abandoned cart emails weren't being sent and none of my friends had gotten an email regarding abandoned carts... what could be the issue?

You can try these suggestions:
1. Check if the abandoned cart emails are enabled in your Shopify store settings or not. To check this, go to your Shopify admin panel and click on "Settings" and then "Notifications." Under the "Abandoned checkouts" section, make sure the "Send abandoned checkout emails" checkbox is selected.
2. Check the email templates for abandoned cart emails. Make sure the email templates are set up correctly and contain the necessary information, such as the abandoned items and a call-to-action to complete the purchase.
3. Verify that the email addresses of the customers who abandoned their carts are valid and not bouncing. You can check this by going to your Shopify admin panel and clicking on "Orders." Search for the abandoned orders and check the email addresses associated with them. If the email addresses are bouncing, the abandoned cart emails will not be delivered.

There is not abandoned cart section within notifications.
To enable the abandons you have to go to Marketing > Automations
However, even then it does not work.
