All things Shopify and commerce
The Dept. of Taxation requests that I report my total net sales and nontaxable sales when paying sales tax. I don't charge sales tax all the time because many of my clients are tax exempt. I know that Shopify is charging sales tax accordingly. But where do I see the total amount of sales that were nontaxable in any given period? Thank you!
My suggestion would be to use one of the Sales reports available in the Shopify reports and add the "Tax" column to the report. Limit to the period you are interested in and export that report to CSV. Then you can open in Excel and sort the tax column so that all the zero tax amounts come to the top. Then you can remove the non-zero rows and that will be your nontaxable sales.
Thank you! That is exactly what I ended up doing and it worked.
Not a perfect solution. I had some returns and exchanges of taxable items that zero'd out and came up as 0 in tax amount. I wish there was a report filter by Product Category so I could pull up all the food sales.
Been searching for this answer myself. I have "Tax Exempt Customers" as well as "Tax Exempt Items" in my prior systems reporting I had a "Taxable Sales" column then a "Non-Taxable Sales" column. If I took the total from the "Taxable Sales" column and multiplied it against our state tax percentage it always equaled the "Tax Collected" column. With sales combined I don't know how to easily or accurately break down these numbers. Shopify please help ~ Thank you in advance!
