All things Shopify and commerce
Hi everybody,
I´m very new to Shopify and I´m kinda stuck in the Markets language attribute configurations.
I offer three languages in my shop: German, English and Spanish, with subdirectories /en for English and /es for Spanish. Works fine so far.
I created a market "International EN" that contains all the countries outside the EU who should be lead to
the english version of my shop: www.example.com/en . Besides that, also the other languages should be available. So I made English the default language of this market and also activated the checkboxes for the other two languages.
Problem is: I´d just like to use www.example.com/en , but shopify just shows me "/en-" so that I need to add a second part of the attribute, like "/en-xx", what (for me) does not make sense when I have multiple international countries in one market. Is there a solution I just can select "/en" with nothing else added?
Thanks so much,
Chris
It sounds like you're facing Shopify’s automatic market and language structuring, which can be a bit restrictive. Unfortunately, Shopify enforces the / en-xx format for multi-region markets to manage localization properly. A potential workaround is using URL redirects to guide visitors to / en without the additional country code, though this may require custom development. Another option is leveraging Shopify’s headless commerce approach for greater flexibility in handling URLs and content structure. Additionally, third-party apps specializing in internationalization might offer more control over language and market configurations.
On a related note, if you're managing international sales, financial planning tools like a Calculadora de Interés Compuesto can be incredibly useful for forecasting revenue growth across different markets, especially when dealing with multiple currencies and long-term financial planning.
