Order notifications no longer persistent on iPhone

For years I have received order notifications (cha-ching!) on my iPhone (1 year old) and they were persistent. As of a couple of months ago they still show up, but disappear within seconds. My phone has the latest updates, I deleted and re-downloaded the Shopify app, notifications are set correctly (as they have been for years), I turned off the phone after the updates and turned it back on - all the usual suggestions. The notifications will not "stick" on the home screen. Anyone else having this issue?

Hi @TCRP

I totally get how frustrating this must be. That persistent “cha-ching” is a key part of running your store, and when notifications start vanishing, it’s a real problem. Since you’ve already tried the usual fixes—updating iOS, reinstalling the Shopify app, and double-checking notification settings—let’s go a little deeper.

1. Check iPhone Notification Settings (Beyond Basics)

Even if your settings look fine, Apple sometimes resets preferences after updates. Try this:

  • Go to Settings > Notifications > Shopify
  • Ensure "Lock Screen," "Notification Center," and "Banners" are all enabled.
  • Set "Banner Style" to Persistent (this ensures notifications stay visible).
  • Make sure "Show Previews" is set to Always (some privacy settings can interfere).

2. Disable Focus or Do Not Disturb Modes

Apple’s Focus Modes (introduced in iOS 15) may be auto-filtering notifications.

  • Go to Settings > Focus and check if any mode (Work, Sleep, etc.) is enabled.
  • If so, tap on the mode and ensure Shopify notifications aren’t being silenced.

3. Reinstall Shopify App (But Reset Permissions)

Sometimes, simply deleting and reinstalling isn’t enough.

  1. Delete the Shopify app.
  2. Restart your iPhone.
  3. Reinstall the Shopify app, but don’t open it yet.
  4. Go to Settings > Shopify and enable all permissions (especially Notifications).
  5. Then open the app and log in—this forces a fresh notification sync.

4. Check Shopify Notification Settings

While this is likely an iOS issue, it’s good to confirm settings in the Shopify admin:

  • Go to Shopify Admin > Settings > Notifications
  • Scroll to Staff order notifications and confirm your email/phone is listed.

5. Still Not Working? Try a Test Order

  • If everything is set correctly but still not persistent, place a test order and see if the notification disappears again.
  • If it does, it may be a Shopify app bug—reach out to Shopify support to report it.

Final Thoughts

Since this issue started after an update, it’s likely tied to an iOS change. Apple’s system updates often tweak how notifications behave, and some apps (like Shopify) take time to adjust. If none of these fixes work, I’d recommend keeping an eye on Shopify app updates—they may release a fix soon.

If you need any other assistance, I am willing to help.
Best regards,
Daisy.

All done. Again, it is not that notifications are not working at all, they are just not persistent any longer.

It is a Shopify issue, they have been notified, and they say they are aware. No time frame for a resolution.

I've had this issue for a year or so.

Notifications appear and then disappear within a few seconds, right now, they disappear practically instantly, previously it was after about 5 seconds.

I've been having this issue for the past year or so. Sales notifications last no more than few seconds on the Notification center, then they disappear.
