All things Shopify and commerce
Hi Community,
I'm a Shopify Partner and regularly create stores for clients using my partner referral link. Recently, I’ve encountered a new issue during the store creation process.
When signing up on behalf of a client, I select United States as the country during the signup. However, once the store is created, the billing address automatically shows as India—even though this did not happen previously. This causes confusion and may affect store configuration, payments, and app compatibility.
I’ve attached a screenshot of the signup step where you can clearly see that USA was selected, yet the billing address defaults to India after the account is created.
This seems to be a recent change, and I’d appreciate it if anyone from the community or Shopify team can confirm if this is a known issue or share any solutions.
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Mukund

Hey Mukund
That really is odd. My guess is Shopify is defaulting to the country on your Partner account instead of the one you picked for the new store.
Try popping into the store admin and updating the billing address under Settings Billing before you set up any payment methods. If it sticks, you’re golden. If it flips back to India, it’s likely a glitch with the Partner link so I’d reach out to Shopify Support and ask them to dig into it.
