All things Shopify and commerce
I’ve been using Shopify for about a year, and my payouts have consistently arrived within a few hours of being marked as paid, at the same time every business day. However, today I’ve been waiting for over 16 hours, and the payout still hasn’t reached my bank account. Shopify states that payouts typically take 1-2 business days to process, but since I’ve had over 300 payouts that were always on time, this delay is concerning. Could there be an issue causing this delay, or should I just wait and assume it will resolve itself? Any advice would be appreciated.
It’s definitely concerning when something changes with your payout timing. While it’s likely just a temporary delay, it’s a good idea to contact Shopify Support to double-check if there are any issues with your account or payment processor. They can give you more specific details and help ensure everything’s on track. If it’s just a delay, they’ll be able to confirm it for you.
Unfortunately, Support's response to me was that they didn't have more detailed information. They could only share that while I have my payouts set to business day, it could take up the five business days. If Shopify showed the payout as 'PAID', and then it subsequently took up to 5 business days to be received....I would be ok with that. What I'm not ok with, is when Shopify takes a week to initiate the payout....and then has no explanation as to why.
There are numerous merchants who've been experiencing new (worse) payout behavior and delayed timing. Shopify tells most of us that it is due to them using new payment processors. It's causing problems for a lot of merchants. Here is just one thread, but there are many.

If more of us push shopify, hopefully they will fix this new payment processing issue so that their merchants are not penalized for their lack of ability to do the main job we pay them to do. Please do make sure their support team know about your problem, and that you're not happy about the situation.
I don't really care if the payout takes longer to arrive as long as I receive it. That was I was a bit worried about but I think I'll just need to wait and get used to waiting longer.
Hello!
the same happened to me! The weird thing is that this happened just before Black Friday weekend… coincidence? I don’t think so!!!
and my payouts have always been on time like yours!!!
I have the $105 monthly plan and my payout options are business day, weekly, or monthly. The fact that you get a payout within hours is interesting. I am brand new to Shopify and I received my first payout the next business day. I had a sale on 11/30 and it's telling me my payout date is 12/6. It's now 12/3 and nothing has changed.
So I guess there's nothing in our Terms of Service regarding this? Shopify expects a timely payment of their fees....but can more or less pay you depending on what? I'm reading nonsense about new processors.... Do I get to make excuses for late payments? I'm having a hard time understanding this business model. Also, the fact that 'numerous merchants experiencing worse' doesn't make me feel any better. The fact that it happens en masse doesn't excuse the breach in terms of service.
In addition to the monthly fee I pay, there is a transaction fee paid for timely processing. If Shopify is experiencing issues on their side, then they should be considering to reduce their fees for untimely processing.
Reaching support is such a pain. The agent initially responds after 15 minutes. I finally ask the question and then 20 minutes goes by.....when I don't respond in 30 seconds, the chat is ended. No exaggeration.... New Year resolution: find a new provider.
I finally did get a response from Support. They had no explanation other than to say that despite the 'business day' setting, it can take up to 5 business days. Here's the thing...after the sale on 11/30, it immediately showed the payment would be processed by Shopify on 12/6. That alone tells me Shopify had no intention to process the payment any sooner. They are sitting on my funds (likely making a fortune by doing this to folks) and delaying payment. Fortunately, there are other options.
