Permanent Account Disabled - Sanctioned Organization?

HI

 

Our account is permanently disabled by Shopify saying that we have connections with a sanctioned organization. They said that the organization has been added to a sanctions watchlist maintained by the United States' Office of Foreign Assets Control and as a result, we are unable to continue supporting your business. 

 

Has anyone encountered similar issue before and can we have all our backend data back?

I have not had this issue but did you "knowingly" have connections with a "sanctioned organization"? It could also be an error if you have an employee with the same name etc that's on the list of sanctioned organizations. I am not an expert but depending on your location, I believe this is beyond Shopify's control and they are legally required to disable accounts since it's based from guidance on the level of foreign policy and national security goals.

Thank you for your reply and the information! None of our team has connections to this so called sanctioned organization as all the authorized users are strictly monitored by our team...We are sure that it's a wrong decision by Shopify...

 

Just wondering if there is a way that we can know how to avoid this in the future? From our perspective it's not fair as our account is just being terminated without any helpful information..
