What is the minimum plan required in shopify for custom domain?
Hey, @holicshopping! Welcome to Shopify Community!
Domain hosting services are available on any paid Shopify subscription plan. You can buy a custom domain when you're on the following plans (these are arranged from lowest to highest in pricing):
You can either start with the Shopify Starter plan or the Basic Shopify plan. I recommend these two different plans as there are two key differences between them. While the Shopify Starter plan is the lowest-priced plan, it's designed for selling on social and messaging apps. It only comes with a simple storefront and not an online store. If you're looking to build and maintain an online store, the Basic Shopify plan is the lowest-priced plan that comes with all the tools to create and customize an online store.
Our pricing varies per country or region, so I suggest viewing our pricing page to see the prices applicable to your store. You can also see the features of each plan there.
Since you haven't selected a plan, I assume you're still setting up your store. I understand this process can get overwhelming so I thought I'd share a resource that will help lighten the load. If you ever need some guidance in configuring all the settings, designing your storefront, and creating a marketing strategy for your launch, this handy general setup checklist is here for you to refer to.
Let me know if you have questions about what I've shared above!

Hello,
I am working on a store that is on the Basic Plan, however when I go to the domain settings it says
"Domains are not available in your current plan. In order to use this feature you must upgrade your plan."
Hey, @holicshopping! Welcome to Shopify Community!
Have you double-checked that the store is on the Basic plan by going to Settings > Plan in your admin? I ask because this error doesn't normally appear on this plan, but it does on the Developer preview plan.
If you find that you are on the Developer preview plan, it is expected to be unable to open the Domains page. Access is not provided to the Domains page when you're on this plan since the plan is designed to be used specifically for partners to preview different features & functions. The only development store plan where you can access and manage domains is the Developer Affiliate plan. Since it's not possible to transition a store on the Developer preview plan to a different plan, you'll need to create a new store by following this guide to create a store on the Developer Affiliate plan and reenter your store information.
If your store is indeed on the Basic plan and you're unable to access the Domains page, please visit https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V and log in to your account to create a support request. After visiting the link and logging in, you'll be prompted to select the topic of your concern so we can connect you to the right articles and support team. Once you do, you'll be able to find the options for support below the help docs that are presented to you.

Hello,
I am finding different answers all over and wanted to clarify this.
I am currently on the Shopify Starter plan and looking to purchase a domain through shopify. If i do this, will i have to upgrade my plan or will i have to pay extra a month in order to host my domain. Or will the $15 a year for the domain cost be the only extra i will have to pay.
thank you
Hey, @SweetMercy! Welcome to Shopify Community!
I'm glad to learn you're thinking of purchasing a custom domain. It's an effective tool for enhancing your online presence as it makes it easier for customers to remember and find your website, and it adds a professional touch to your brand. If you're still thinking of a name, feel free to refer to this guide to help you come up with the best domain for your store.
Now, you can certainly purchase a domain when you're on the Shopify Starter plan. You don't need to upgrade, so you only need to pay for the annual fee when you get one. Do bear in mind that the fee varies, and you can find out how much it will cost as you go through the process of purchasing a domain. You can refer to this guide to buy a custom Shopify domain.
Let me know if you have other questions about buying a domain and I would be happy to assist you further!
