Prevent purchase of certain product combinations

Hello, on our current Shopify site we plan to have a catering collection, but we want to prevent customers from purchasing normal products together with these catering products. Would that be possible? If so, would it be through an app or must it be custom coded?

To prevent customers from purchasing normal products with catering products on Shopify, separate them into different collections or use distinct product types/tags.

But they will still be able to go to other collections and add products won't they? We are trying to separate the purchasing of catering products and normal products.

So for example, if someone adds a normal product to the cart, they won't be able to add a catering product. Or alternatively, could it be set so that if they have both a normal and catering product they will be unable to proceed with the checkout

Hey there, @sugarstretch. Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this thread! At this time, it's not possible to natively prevent two products from being ordered together. To achieve this functionality, you'll want to either add some custom coding to your store, or use a third party app. As Shopify Support Staff aren't trained on code, I can't advise you on what this solution would look like, but we do have third party apps, like Order Limits which helps you prevent products being purchased together using rules you define within the app. I recommend taking advantage of it's free trial to see if it's a good fit for your needs!
