Product category and product types

I have read Shopify help where the difference between product category and product types. Most of my products have a product type like "Kids T-Shirt", etc.

Now after reading the help about this (https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/details/product-type#product-category-and-product-types), I'm wondering if I should delete all the product type labels.

Or is there a good reason to have both?
