Hello,
I have over 2K products. All the product categories changed to Chinese! I have looked everywhere and cannot understand how this was changed. Everything else is in English. When scrolling thru the category list on product page nothing is in English. Your help is appreciated. Thanks!
I am seeing others having the same issue. I sure hope it can be fixed. How is tech support notified?
Same happening with me on over 8,000 products :-(. Another change on top of so many constant changes by Shopify. Frustrating!

It sounds like there might have been a glitch or a bulk update that caused the product categories to change to Chinese. Contact Shopify Support for assistance in resolving this issue. They can investigate and help you restore the categories to English.
Impossible, i haven't mass updated or uploaded any new products.

Same here, multiple stores combined of 6-7k products, all chinese all of a sudden

Oh wow! I was just trying to fix that, got no where and decided to google it and saw everyone has the same issue last one hour 🙂 thats funny thou, we all freaked out i guess :)))

I have the same problem but the rest of my store is in English though. My store isn't launched yet but if it was, would this issue be visible for others who visits my store?
I hope this is just a coincidence, but a customer contacted us a couple hours ago and told us they had trouble paying with apple pay, they were charged twice, and then their alternate card was unable to process when they tried to check out with that. I came here because I noticed the chinese categories changed on my products page, I would normally just assume that the checkout trouble was customer error, but I hope they're not related. Just posting this to make sure no one else had checkout trouble today, I'm sure people doing more volume than us would notice.
Oh that is concerning, hopefully this doesn't affect sales & customer experience. Not sure how something like this happens but surely it's not a small error.

Same thing for me as well with nearly 10k products. It's clearly a much bigger problem than just us, so hopefully everyone reports it so they fix it.

Seeing this as well. At first I thought someone in our company changed this, but then realized you can't change ONLY this product category language and nothing else. Hope this gets fixed soon. Definitely a Shopify issue.

Ours did this exact same thing today. AI help search said "sounds like your (store's translation/theme/something) needs a tweak". Shopify Help Center | Translating themes
We are also having the same issue. It was working fine for most of the day, and then suddenly it starting switching things I was working on to Chinese, which was strange. And then I noticed that it had changed much of what I had worked on today to Chinese. My assumption is that its original (english) word has just been translated. I checked out languages and it still said English. I tried to contact support and the AI kept telling me to check the language, checked it once again, and tried to explain further how it was just one particular thing that had been changed into Chinese. Eventually I was directed to try clearing my cache / cookies, and / or trying a different browser. I did all of that, checked on another computer with a different browser, checked with staff to make sure nobody had inadvertently done something to change the language; I was starting to assume that it must just be a glitch and then we found this page. Phew to it not being just us at the very least. I'd had to restart my computer because it was angry at me trying to clear all of the things, so now trying to get into contact with shopify directly to report the issue but waiting on a queue, so reporting it here.
Note to all: I have heard back from Shopify Support:
"We are currently experiencing an ongoing issue that is affecting all merchants' access to the some section in the Settings of your Shopify account. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and want to assure you that our team is actively working to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. Our dedicated developers have been notified about this issue and are diligently working to identify and rectify the underlying cause. We are committed to providing you with the best possible service, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. While I don't have an exact timeline for the resolution at this moment, I want to assure you that this is our top priority"
In my case "Category" affects my taxes in check out. 😱 I tried to leave "Category" blank but keeps adding it in Chinese. I hope they fix this soon. 🤞
I have multipe stores and they all recently changed to chinese charaters. Misspelled on purpose!
I'll jump on the bandwagon.... we have the same issue. This is a Shopify issue and should be fixed by Shopify... if they can mass change it to Chinese... they can change it back!

Came here to say the same thing but noticed it just resolved a minute ago. Seems like they had to perform a patch. That said, I notice Shopify has been a bit buggy lately. A few weeks ago, our product preview emails were sending a bunch of wrong links.
Us too! It was bizarre. our 3 staff members each were like "i cant get category tags done" separately the last two hours.
I just got off Shopify Chat and this is what they said:
Following conference with our developers, it appears they may need some time to resolve this issue. However, I want to assure you that issues like this that is affecting many of our merchants are treated as a high priority by our development team.
So definitely a Shopify issue and they are working to fix it as quickly as possible.
And as I just posted that... I refreshed the page and my product categories are back to normal! Hope everyone's will get fixed here soon.
Here is the response I received from a Shopify support advisor in the chat:"I see here you are seeing Chinese characters on your product pages. This is an ongoing issue. Our developers are currently investigating it. I will email you once this issue is fixed. I apologize for the inconvenience."
