Product images out of order when selecting photos for variants

Hello is anyone else having this issue? In the admin on a product page when adding new photos/variants to a product that already has some photos/variants, when I now upload the photos they appear in the correct order off my memory card in the product's photo grid, BUT when I go to select a photo to attach to a specific variant- the photos shown to select from there are completely mixed up and out of order, even when I tell it to sort by most recently added. Shopify just caused this change with last week's changes within the admin and now is basically REFUSING to acknowledge or fix it but it breaks the entire system for me. It's impossible to sort through endless pages of photos trying to find the right one when they're shown to me all mixed up out of order with no rhyno or reason, so I cannot add new variants efficiently now to products with many new unique variants. SOMEONE else must be experiencing this issue, too?

Do you have some kind of app that syncs products from another system?

I guess it might be a dropshipping app that deletes your existing products with images in the correct sort order and recreates them. 

I don't think Shopify would introduce this kind of bug. It would be a lot of noice in this case.
