"Amount off orders" -> How to exclude some collections/products from discount

Hi, we need to exclude some collections (or specific products) from the discount during checkout.
We can do this by selecting the discount type: "Amount off products", but it seems that it is not possible if I select the discount type: "Amount off orders".
We cannot change our discount coupons "Amount off orders" to "Amount off products" because these discounts are automatically created by a third-party app which we cannot give up.
In your opinion, is there a possibility of not having this type of discount applied if there is at least one product in the cart that belongs to a specific collection?
Thanks to anyone who wants to help

Hi @APDEV

There is a discount setting in Shopify that the discount code will onky applicable for "specific collections" and will not be applied if one item in the cart is not part of that collection. Though, since the discounts are generated by third party app, you can try to do the workaround which is, you can make the discount exclude a specific product by using an  Automated collections.

You would create an automatic collection using the values "Product Title" and "is not equal to" with the titles of your factory seconds, and that is how this would function.

With the exception of the things that aren't eligible for the discount, this will generate a collection with every item in your store. After that, all you have to do is apply your newly created discount code to the collection you've assembled. By using this technique, new products you add to your store will instantly be added to the collection and qualify for the discount. Provided that none of the exclusion criteria apply to them.

Otherwise, I highly suggest that you reach out to the app developer where the discounts are generated so they can give you further insights and recommendations about their app and if there is an option under the app to have the feature that you would like to achieve.

Hi Roan_M, thank you for reply!
I need to exclude some products (or collections) from "Amount off order" discounts type:

This kind of discounts doesn't have any sections where I can exclude collections or products.

Hi APDEV,

You're right - native Shopify "Amount off order" discounts don't support limiting the discount to specific collections/products.

However, you can exclude specific collections/products from an order discount in our app, Regios Automatic Discounts (4.8 stars, Built for Shopify).

The following screenshots demonstrate how you can easily set this up using our advanced logic builder:

Though the final discount will be applied to order subtotal, it will be calculated based only on the eligible products. This should meet your needs.

I'm assuming you are creating an automatic discount, not a discount code that customers have to manually enter themselves at checkout.

If you have any questions about this, just reply, and I'll be happy to help.

Tobe

Hi Tobe, thank you very much for your reply.
Unfortunately, discounts on orders are created dynamically and are associated with several promotional codes.
We have an external tool dedicated to affiliate partners which allows them to offer coupon codes: each sale on our site made through their specific coupon code determines the association of the sale with the partner, allowing them to earn a commission on the sale.
Now we have to launch a new pre-order collection and we cannot allow this new collection to be sold at a discounted price.
Your app would be perfect if it could also intercept the coupon codes associated with the discount on the order but I understand that this case is not foreseen!
Anyway, thank you very much for your contribution to my problem
Best,
Andrea

Hi there @JoseUniversal!

If you're looking to create this kind of discount rule to exclude certain products from being covered by a given discount you can look into using one of the discount apps available in our app store.

As with all third-party apps in our store, you can reach out to the developers directly with any support queries you have by using the contact details listed there on the app store page.

Hello,
Thanks for replying, but I can't find any application that does that. Exclude products from an order type discount.
If you can give me any example of any application that does this, I would be very grateful.
Best regards.

Hi JoseUniversal,

Can you please explain why automatic order discounts that can exclude specific products would not work for you?

Best,

Tobe

Hi Tobe,

What I need is that the discounts are generated by me, since they are associated to our affiliates (each affiliate has its own).

I understand that this is not possible, right?

Thank you.

Thanks for clarifying.

Correct, this is not possible now.

However, there is a new Shopify API on the horizon that looks promising to solve cases like this.

It is called the discount allocator function API, and it has the ability to create new rules that can intercept discounts, as far as I can understand.

However, it is in developer preview right now, and only Shopify plus stores can develop custom apps with this API.

So, I don't know if/when this will ever be made available to all stores, but I recommend keeping an eye out for updates about that API.

Best,

Tobe
