My customer can not enter a discount code as the Gift Card field has replaced it in checkout.
How do I fix this?
The Gift Card and Discount field are the same. Now if you don't have the ability to use a discount code then it's very likely you are looking at a Draft Order checkout and not a normal Online Storefront checkout. It's easy to check if that's the case but it would need a link to your shop so we can see it.
Hey @Dylan_78!
Cal here from Shopify, thanks for reaching out to us. How are you today?
As mentioned above, the gift card field and the discount field on checkout are one and the same. If this is operating how you would expect, or you are having any difficulty with applying discounts or gift cards in your store, I'd be happy to investigate this further! If so, just share your MyShopify URL with me here.
Thanks!

Hi Cal,
I am also having this same issue where for some customers the disocunt field is showing as 'Gift Card' and when they enter the discount code it doesnt accept it.
The discount codes are active and should be working. I had someone else try it and the discount field displays as 'Discount code or gift card' and when the field displays like that, the discount code is accepted.
So far it seems to not work (display 'gift card' field) on desktop but on mobile it displays 'Discount code or gift card' and the code works.
Would love some help if possible?
Thanks
Elise
Did you ever resolve this issue - we have exactly the same problem. It only happens occasionally.
Thanks.
Hi there,
yes I did work it out and I’m surprised it wasn’t something ever discussed on any forum I’ve seen.
for my store personally, I use a product options app as my products have quite a lot of variations to add or reject when purchasing a product. When the customer was purchasing a product with a price add-on option, the app was using ‘draft’ orders and this is when you see the ‘gift card’ option instead of ‘discount or gift card’. Draft orders also don’t work for automatic discounts.
so in short, if you have an app on your store that uses draft orders in the background this would be the issue. I am not aware if this is the case for everyone who is having the same issue but it would be good to investigate.
hopefully this helps you in some way.
Elise
Thanks Elise,
Yes we do have an options app, building draft orders, it's supposed to sync with discount codes, and mostly they do seem to work, but with occasional issues.
I'll have a look and see if this is the issue.
Many thanks,
Neil
Good luck. The only time my option app uses draft orders is when the customer has selected a product option which has a fee attached to it. Any options that don’t have a fee attached will continue to use the normal order process and they have no issues with discounts. Hope that helps.
Have you figured out a workaround for this that isn't a total pain?
The contacted support for the app i was using and asked if they had a way to stop using draft orders and they did have an option which i used for a while but it wasnt a great user experience from a UI perspective so i changed apps and now i no longer have this issue.
do you mind sharing which app you're currently using? i'm having this issue with my current app YMQ 😞
I am currently using Dynamic Product Options and it is honestly the best and has everything I need and it’s very trustworthy and great support.
thank you!
This was some time ago, but from memory we resolved this issue by upgrading the Dawn theme. This resolved the issue for us. Currently on Dawn 13.0.1
