Rebrand company - change domain SEO impact

Hello,

I would to get some feedback what is the best way to approach a rebrand on my company and website.

1) to create a new store  or
2) create a new theme in library and redirect the current domain to the new one

Today lets say I have domain  www.olddomain.dk (with good SEO ranking) and I want to rebrand the company and redirect all the traffic to www.newdomain.com and maintaing the SEO ranking

I would like to have www.olddomain.dk live while I create the new site under theme library,
Once the site is ready I want to publish this theme and set www.newdomain.com as primary domain. Can I just redirect  www.olddomain.dk to www.newdomain.com or will I encounter any complications?

Looking for feedback from someone who have rebranded/changed domain of their store succefully.

Hi @ddcu As I have done it earlier for a merchant so I think I am a good candidate to provide the answer to you on this issue:

Yes you are correct you can design the theme while having www.olddomain.dk live and once the new theme is completed and you are good to go then first change the theme and then change the domain from www.olddomain.dk to www.newdomain.com and set it as primary domain , also remember to change the SEO text of your store according to the new branding.

Please Note: It will definitely hit your SEO Ranking, but it will be way better than create the new store and then starting the SEO from scratch.
