Reconnecting google merchant

I was connecting my Shopify store to google merchant with a html code and mistakenly was logged into the wrong google merchants account when I did it. It was then connected, but to the wrong account - and I received a message that my "domain was already claimed" and had the option of transferring my domain. I would not like to do this.

I have removed the html meta tag from my Shopify store code. Will I be able to use it again in the future to connect the correct google merchants account as normal without any domain transferring since I have removed the meta tag code? I read on google merchants that if I remove the code Google Merchant Center may be disconnected (which is what I want.) Any idea how long this could take?

First step is to ensure you delete / close down any of your other Google merchant center accounts, as that will put you at great risk of getting suspended, and once suspended, it's hard to get approved.

Then once done, yes you can re-connect to your original first account. You can reconnect instantly, there is no waiting. Just ensure you carefully ensure it is the correct account.

Hello @fimer

Right now, once you pull out that verification meta tag, Google will eventually see the domain as unverified in the original Merchant Center—you don’t have to transfer anything. The catch is that Google can take anywhere from a few minutes up to 48 hours to crawl your site again and drop the “domain claimed” status in that first account.

Once you’ve confirmed it’s unverified (you can check by clicking “Verify URL” in the old Merchant Center), you can safely add the correct meta tag to your Shopify theme and claim the domain under your proper Merchant account. No transfer step is needed—just remove the old tag, wait for Google to refresh, then add the new tag under the right account and hit “Verify” again.

If you want to speed things up, you can go into the old Merchant Center’s Business information settings and delete the website URL entry altogether—this forces immediate removal. From there, simply reconnect under your correct account with fresh verification.
