Hi community,

I noticed that a customer make an account in our shop, everytime he/she needs to enter email and password. Somehow shopify doesn't remember the login credentials. Does anyone knows how to solve it?

Imagine everytime you open a facebook at would as you password... It's insane.

Shopify remembers customer account login sessions for a certain time, but not "forever". This is achieved through cookies which have a certain lifetime. Once these cookies expire, the user will have to log into their customer account again. It's standard practice and there's nothing you can (or should) change about it.

Hey, Thomas. Thanks for a quick reply!

Do you know (at least approximatelly) what is the lifetime of the cockies? I made my test account yesterday and today I should eneter the password again. Somehow even the browser (Chrome) didn't save it..

I'm not sure which cookies control the customer account sessions, might be a day (24 h).

24h... this is not a good user experience case. Is there any solution for that? FB/Google login maybe?

There are several apps for social login available in the App Store: https://apps.shopify.com/search?q=social%20login

Thanks, I will look but I have a feeling that won't solve a problem..

What I want  is that when a customer open my site (even he/she wan't there for couple of weeks) see the message "Hey, Michi! Nice to see you again", here is your previouse orders, loyalty points, etc.. But the customer won't see that until he/she login themselves or when they check-out, which is already too late.

I thought it is so a standard approach and I can see that on most of the site where I buy but looks like it is not the case with Shopify..

The length of customer account sessions can't be changed and there really is no standard approach to how long sessions should be. Amazon's sessions basically never expire, which definitely can be convenient for customers and also lets Amazon do exactly what you want to do, e. g. customize the experience for every customer.

Alas, here's another post on the subject and the Shopify staff member in that thread confirms that there are no plans to change this on Shopify's side: https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-discussions/how-to-keep-customer-logged-in/td-p/468169

Hi, thank you Thomas for the links. Now it is clear what is the issue.

I will send the change request as well to Shipify team, maybe they will change their mind and let shop owners decide on how to handle their customers login.
