having a difficult time removing both the sale circle and the sale from the gift card on the catalogue page.

If Compare Price is greater than the Price, You will always see a SALE badge/price.

If you actually have to want to remove badge, which will remove it for all items, look for the Pricing Liquid template and search for badge.
