Reports for certain collections/products

Hi there, 

We have a shop selling wines and event tickets. We would like to know more about our wine customers (age, location, male or female, mobile or desktop device etc) - how can we create reports that show ONLY the wines? They are in their own categories: still wines, sparkling wines and vermouth. 

- We are on the basic Shopify plan and would like to be certain we can get wine specific reports if we upgrade?

- We also use Google Analytics - is it possible to get these reports better on there?

Bo here from Shopify Support.

That is a really interesting question and I can totally see why you would want to be able to report on specific collections, it could help you find a demographic for certain products and then target ads to that demographic more effectively. I took a look into this and found that while the Shopify plan does not have a specific report for collections, you can filter the "Sales by Product" report by "Product Type". If you are using the product type functionality to split up your wines into different categories this will work perfectly for you.

Alternatively, I was able to find an app called Better Reports that has a sales by collection report feature. This app costs $19.90 per month and comes with a 14-day free trial.

If you still want to see reports about collections, please try InSites App for Shopify .
It is a very easy to install app, which gives you the most important data about your shop (including collections), right in the header of your site (visible only for admins).
The app is in final beta, so I would really appreciate your feedback.

We can create a custom report filtered for products in the wine collection and show the location and device type for these customers. This can be broken down by product type and/or product as needed. Unfortunately, age and gender are not recorded by Shopify so we cannot include this unless it is noted in metafields, attributes or tags. This would be available through Better Reports without upgrading your Shopify plan.

I'm curious about this recommendation because you don't show reports by collection as an option in your report menu, though maybe I'll get some help from customer service for that. Also curious about the pricing, which is advertised as lower than the trial check out agreement button.

Me again - so I'm trying out the trial, and the person to person experience for creating custom reports is great. Claudia knew just what I was looking for - reports by collection or tags - helped me understand what was in the way and how to fix it, and pointed out the data gaps to be filled in for a comprehensive, actionable report. And she pointed out the pricing tiers are parallel to the shopify subscription level - with the least expensive (advertised) applicable to the basic plan.

For detailed Collections/Products reports, I highly recommend Dhatma. Our reports provide detailed performance insights for each product in your catalog (views, impressions, CR, CTR, etc) and you also have visibility over which customers ordered specific products.
