Scam and Fraud

I so hope no one uses shopify for legitimate business. Their customer service does NOT exist and their chatbot is a joke.

Nevertheless, I am here to warn people that if you use or shop here...DO NOT respond or buy anything from the merchant whose email is cinnamonspicee@yahoo.com. That is my email and I have NOT opened a shop.

My attempt to engage legal has been frugal and chat bot won't let me into the account because I obviously don't have a code generator for Shopify.

I do hope shoppers will see this and avoid the shop.

Hi @cinnamonhood

I think you're dealing with a serious case of fraud where someone has falsely used your email to create a Shopify store without your consent. I completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially when you're struggling to get proper support.

Here’s what you should do immediately to report this and protect yourself:

1. Report the Fraudulent Store to Shopify

Since you don’t have access to the account, you’ll need to report it directly to Shopify’s support team. Even though the chatbot might not be helpful, you can still submit a report through Shopify’s Trust & Safety Team by using their official form:

👉 Shopify Report a Merchant

Select the appropriate category (e.g., "Impersonation" or "Fraudulent store") and provide all details about the situation, including your email and any evidence you have.

2. Secure Your Email Account

If someone used your email to register, they may have access to other accounts. Here’s what I recommend:

  • Change your email password immediately (use a strong, unique password).
  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) if you haven’t already.
  • Check for any unauthorized logins or forwarded emails in your email settings.

3. Attempt to Recover the Account (If Possible)

Even though you don't have a code generator, you can try resetting the account if the email is actually yours:

  • Go to Shopify’s login page → Click "Forgot password?"
  • If the email is linked to an active Shopify account, you might receive a password reset link.

If you receive a password reset email, DO NOT click on it if you didn’t initiate the request—this could be a phishing attempt. Instead, report it to Shopify.

4. Consider Filing a Complaint

If Shopify support doesn’t respond adequately, you can escalate the issue by:

  • Filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) if you're in North America.
  • Contacting your local consumer protection agency (especially if money has been stolen).
  • Reporting the fraud to your bank (if you or anyone else has been scammed).

5. Warn Others About the Store

Since you mentioned that people may be shopping there under false pretenses, it’s a good idea to:

  • Leave a review or report the store on social media or review platforms (if applicable).
  • Encourage victims to dispute transactions with their banks.

I get how frustrating this is, and I wish Shopify’s customer service was more responsive in urgent cases like these. If you haven't yet, try reaching out to Shopify Support via Twitter/X (@ShopifySupport)—sometimes they respond faster there.

If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to help.
Best regards,
Daisy
