See Sales Report by Tag or Collection

Hello! I would like to generate a report of sales by product tag or collection. I noticed in the sales by product tab on the reports page you can add columns for vendor, product type, price, etc but did not see these options. Is there another way to do this?

Hi! The Shopify Reports are a great start but are often limited in functionality.

You may have a look at Analytics apps on Shopify who can solve this for you.

In Polar Analytics, there is an advanced product performance tab where you can get all of this information:

And you can try it for free 🙂

Hi @smargolis ,

Currently, it's not possible to achieve this through Shopify's built-in reports.

However, you can check out Report Pundit which provides sales information for each tag, collection, vendor, and many other factors.

We offer access to more than 80 pre-made report templates as well, in case you need them.

You can reach us at support@reportpundit.com

Thanks!

Hi @smargolis,

Keanna here from the Better Reports support team.

I would recommend our app Better Reports for this! We can create reports showing sales by product tags or collections. These can be customized for your specific reporting needs.

In addition to custom reporting capabilities, Better Reports offers more than 80 built-in reports that cover your most common reporting needs including sales, current inventory, refunds, payouts, and more. Our reports can even be scheduled to send at a set frequency to your email or Google Drive!

I encourage you to install Better Reports and start your free 14-day trial and I'll be happy to set this up for you.

Please share how this is accomplished? Documentation isn't clear on how to use custom fields or expressions.

Hi @jpatsos

Thanks for asking! You can read more on how this is accomplished here along with video walkthroughs-

This feature doesn't require any custom fields or expressions.

Hi there,

Can you also filter sales by tag AND POS location name?

Thanks

That report doesn't exist in Shopify in any of the plans . I have been requesting it for years.

And if you have the more advanced Shopify plans most of these 3rd party vendor will charge you more.

It's a pretty basic and useful report that other 3rd party vendors have had for years but Shopify experts can't figure it out.

So get ready to pay 20 or 100 bucks a month for a report that you can get in most any other platform

It's crazy that Shopify doesn't let you see a sales report based on product tags... hoping they fix this.

Thanks for the info, but as a very small business I can't afford to add an app for everything that seems like it should be a pretty basic native feature. Hoping Shopify adds this report functionality rather than leaving customers to pay for more apps.

Hello! First thing's first - I'm from the team at BeProfit (profit analysis dashboard for Shopify) and I can tell you this is a super relevant and commonly asked question - having these types of reports is essential to plan and optimize your product management.

To get to it - with BeProfit you're able to analyze every aspect of your products, including collections, product returns, inventory, and more. Understanding your profit margins per product allows you to focus on what's working, and optimize for profitability.

I hope you'll find this helpful, and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Cheers!

I too would love this sort of report so I don't have to pay extra for just this one feature that's needed 🙂 Please, Shopify ❤️

Howdy!  To do this for free takes a lil bit of excel juggling but its pretty simple, same process and formula for gsheets.

1. shopify steps

- export Shopify order record (can filter by date etc if needed)

- export Shopify product record (before exporting, search products by the tag you're chasing and export that filtered list)

2. excel/ghseets steps

- open the product export and get the list of skus related to the product tag.

- open the order export, create a new tab and paste that list of SKUs into a column
- in that same tab, use COUNTIF function, where the range is the SKU column of the order record tab (Column U, usually) and the criteria is the particular sku.

For eg: =COUNTIF(orders!U:U,A2) where U = skus on the order export, and A2 is the particular sku you're trying to calculate total sales on.

done.

I have come to post some hopefully useful info to others. With much back and forth between apps and shopify support, it is actually quite easy to do with Product Tags, Order Tags, and the Flow App (free).

First, add your Product Tag to the product and then install the shopify Flow app to your store. Then setup a condition to add an ORDER Tag based on the PRODUCT Tag.

Once this is done, you can make views in the ORDERS console rather than Reports console and export a CSV or XSLX file from there.

SUPER USEFUL, and easy to do with a bit of setup then export from Orders console rather than Reports console. Works like a charm and you can save different views to export at any time.

I am having the same challenge and this looks promising. Can you please describe step by step how to "setup a condition to add an ORDER Tag based on the PRODUCT Tag" in Flow?

Sure thing. Here's how:

Step 1: add a product tag to any product(s) "Pants"
Step 2: in flow app set condition " start when: order created"

Step 3: check if: order > line items > product > tag = "Pants"

Step 4: do this: add order tag = "Pants"
Step 5: After orders get a "Pants" tag, make a view labeled "Pants" on your orders dash
Step 6: Export the whole orders csv and sort by "Pants" order tags or use your Pants view to export

We're using a different variable but you can see it checks all products in orders to add a school order tag effectively. You can also make flow app check for multiple conditions as noted below.

Good Luck,

Hi Smargolis,

I suggest our superU app, Better Reports, for this purpose! We can generate reports that display sales based on product tags or collections, all tailored to meet your specific reporting requirements.

Alongside customizable reporting features, Better Reports provides over 80 pre-built reports, addressing your most typical reporting needs such as sales, current inventory, refunds, payouts, and more.

Overall, great to sales report, it's super user-friendly. They even offer a 30-day free trial, so you can really get a feel for it. If you're curious, you can reach out to their team on their website superu.ai.

Shopify! Please make the small adjustment to your reports filter to allow for this! Absolutely ridiculous that this still is not supported

I would LOVE for this function to be native to Shopify reports and not something to pay extra for since it's such a small addition that it doesn't seem to warrant paying an extra fee for via an app. Please, please Shopify.

Terrible that Shopify are yet to add in this feature, especially whilst we pay for premium features, doing any form of royalty reporting is such a hassle withou this feature

Any news regarding this feature?
Just checked the Shopify Editions 2024 and didn't find any updates regarding that small but very useful option.

Hi there, @nickjudge! Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this thread regarding analytics reporting and not being able to create a report for 'Sales by Collection'. My name is Imogen. It's good to meet you!

At this time, we have no updates to share around when a 'Sales by Collection/Tag' may become natively available within Shopify. With that being said, our Developers are aware of the desire for this functionality to become available, and we're always happy to collect and pass along additional feedback around this feature request. I've gone ahead and shared your feedback with our developers, and flagged this thread for their awareness, so they are in the know about the continuing interest in this sort of report being made available natively within Shopify. Thanks again for taking the time to follow up and join in on the conversation!

We are also in need of a sales report by products that can be run by/with collections. This should be basic functionality especially on the Plus plan (most of the apps are way more expensive for vendors on the plus plan, I already pay more for the Shopify subscription and then I am being hit with a $300 monthly charge to get a simple report??? That's unacceptable). Having to use apps for simple things like this is maddening. I'm forced to use an app or waste my time sorting products manually. Please add this functionality asap.

You can do it now for free with the Shopify Flow app. See my answer above and adapt it to your needs. 👍

I did see that, but for one I would have to set up tags and the app for something that shouldn't be more than choosing an option in a report. I am not sure if your solution would work for us either because it sounds like it's then exporting order information and our orders often include products from different categories so I would still need to manually sort through it, even if it would likely be less? Unless I misunderstand how your solution works.

I export from the Orders dash instead of the Analytics dash, you can set it to all time or add a view filter/date range. Then pull any numbers off that csv based on your tag logic. It is extremely useful, I can pinpoint accurate sales figures down to the cent based on collection with minimal setup and even separate out shipping and tax if needed.

Flow app is pretty easy to use and they have a log for debugging.

Setting up these order Tags make it much easier to sort the data depending on how high your scale is. They also allow you to create views for quick sorting your Orders dash. However, shopify should definitely still this functionality to the analytics panel for live snapshots.
