Seller seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth

I ordered some pyjama pants two months ago and after receiving no updates tried reaching out to the seller.

Nothing.

Then i tried reaching out to shopify on the 7th of Feb and am waiting to hear back from them.

The sellers website has an Error 1000 so that's a no go.

I understand i ordered it around Christmas so it may have taken a while but no updates and a non-existent website is a bit odd. Any ideas about why this may be the case and how i can go about handling it?

Hi,

This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.

It's certainly concerning when an online purchase goes awry, especially with a lack of communication and a defunct website. Here's a breakdown of potential reasons and how to proceed:

Possible Reasons for the Situation:

  • Business Closure:
    • The most likely scenario is that the seller's business has closed down. This can happen for various reasons, including financial difficulties.
    • The "Error 1000" on their website suggests a server-side issue, which could be a sign that they've stopped maintaining their online presence.
  • Scam Operation:
    • Unfortunately, there's a possibility that the seller was operating a fraudulent business.
    • Especially around busy shopping periods like Christmas, scammers take advantage of increased online activity.
  • Supply Chain Issues:
    • While less likely given the website's status, they might have faced severe supply chain disruptions that prevented them from fulfilling orders. However, a reputable business would communicate these issues.
  • Technical Issues:
    • While the error code points to server side issues, there is always the very small chance of a prolonged technical issue. However, this is unlikely.

How to Handle the Situation:

  1. Review Order Confirmation and Payment Details:

    • Carefully review your order confirmation email for any contact information or terms and conditions.
    • Check your bank or credit card statements for the payment details.
  2. Contact Your Bank or Credit Card Company:

    • If you paid with a credit card, initiate a chargeback. This is your strongest recourse for getting your money back.
    • Explain the situation to your bank or credit card company, providing them with all the relevant details.
    • If you used a debit card, your bank may also be able to assist, but chargeback rights are typically stronger with credit cards.
    • If you used paypal, open a dispute through your paypal account.
  3. Document Everything:

    • Keep records of all communication attempts, order confirmations, and payment details.
    • Take screenshots of the website's error message.

Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.
