Hi

We want to sell a few of our products into the US market via our shopify store - we want US customers to see their own front page - the prices will be different

I have set up using subfolders etc but want to know the best way to test it?

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks in advance

Hi @jai28

I notice that you're already on the right track with setting up a subfolder for your US customers, but I totally get wanting to make sure everything works properly before launching. Since you want US customers to see a localized version of your store (with different pricing), testing is crucial to avoid any issues down the line.

Here's how to test it properly:

1. Check Your Store’s Geo-Redirection

Make sure your store is correctly redirecting users based on their location. Shopify Markets lets you do this, but you can also manually test by using a VPN to simulate browsing from the US. You should see the US storefront and pricing automatically when visiting your store from a US-based IP address.

2. Preview Your Store in Different Locations

  • Use Shopify’s Market Preview feature to check the storefront experience for US visitors.
  • You can also ask a friend or someone in the US to visit the site and confirm if they see the correct page and pricing.
  • If you’re using Shopify Plus, you can create a separate expansion store for the US market and test directly.

3. Verify Pricing Differences

Since you're setting different prices for US customers, double-check that the correct prices are showing. Here’s how:

  • Visit the store as a UK customer and note the prices.
  • Switch to the US version (via VPN or a preview tool) and confirm the correct pricing.
  • Test adding items to the cart and checkout to make sure no UK prices sneak in.

4. Test Currency & Payment Processing

Ensure that the currency and payment methods work smoothly for US customers. Shopify Markets should handle currency conversion, but:

  • Go through the checkout process (without completing payment) to check if prices remain correct.
  • Verify tax settings and shipping rates for US orders.

5. Make Sure SEO & URL Structure Are Set Correctly

If you’ve set up subfolders (e.g., yourstore.com/en-us/), ensure:

  • Google isn't indexing the wrong version for the wrong audience.
  • Hreflang tags are properly set to show the right content to the right customers.

6. Use Shopify’s Theme Customization to Tailor the Experience

If you want the US homepage to be different, make sure you customize the theme for the US version and check that customers are seeing the right banners, collections, or messages.

Anything Missing?

If you haven’t yet, consider:

  • Adding a pop-up or notification that allows customers to switch between regions manually.
  • Checking Google Search Console to make sure Google is indexing the right version of your site for US searches.
  • Testing customer support flows (especially for shipping & returns) since policies may differ between the UK and US.

You’re definitely on the right path, but these checks should ensure your US expansion goes smoothly.

If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to help.
Best regards,
Daisy
