Sending Gift Cards to Recipients Rather than Purchaser

Is there an option for having the Gift Cards sent to the intended recipient rather than customer, it seems so unprofessional to make the customer forward the gift card. I know there are 3rd party apps that facilitate that but it also seems strange to have to pay so much a month just for an additional field to be added at checkout. 

Is there any coding I could do for my site to make it easier for Recipients to get their gift cards?
