SEO Impact from having multiple cloned stores

Hello,

We are expanding into other cities and other cities will carry a different product mix and different pricing so the best approach we can come up with is to redirect visitors to a different website for each city we operate in. Websites will look the same except except for some product and content that is specific to that city.

From an SEO standpoint I assume that by doing this I would not benefit from having a single site with more traffic (rather than several small sites) but will I be further penalized from an SEO standpoint for having multiple sites that appear as almost closes of each other?

Does it matter how I set up the domains eg boston.mysite.com

Thank you!

Hey @Shawn17.

Thanks for reaching out.

Just to gather some additional context, did you happen to create multiple Shopify stores for each location? You may be interested in using Shopify Markets to create markets in Shopify to target specific countries or regions. You can also group countries and regions together to simplify your expansion efforts.

Additionally, you could use an application that can assist you with displaying the correct currency for your customers depending on their location. We have a great application available called Geolocation available here.
