Setting up a second store for new website design.

I am currently working on a new design for my store and have set up templates for product pages but can't assign these to my live site as I want to save the new look for the new store. 

I've got a few questions: 

• Is it possible to set up a second store on my account so I can test the new build in a live environment? 
• Would this second store need to be billed/invoiced for?

There may be more questions once the above has been answered.

Forgive me for being a bit dim, what do you mean by platform? Currently I'm on Shopify Plus, the website I am designing is Dawn if that helps with you clarifying 😄

Shopify actually has the ability to create development stores that are a sandbox environment, even gaining access to beta release features to try out as well. In this case, I think that would be the best option for you here. You can simulate a live store (can't have an active checkout though) and work through the customer experience and design, without messing anything up on the live site.
