setting up inventory for tshirts

So I'm trying to set up inventory in shopify. Well say I have only 3 screen prints but I want to offer 5 different color options for shirts in short sleeve and long sleeve. When I put these variants in it says I have (just as an example) 680 available in this shirt when in reality I have 3 screen prints to offer in this design.

I only want 3 people to be able to purchase this shirt once 3 shirts are chosen and then it to say sold out. Because I might not find that print again to fulfill any orders other than the 3 I have now??

I hope that makes sense. I am new at this and very confused.

I have set up sku for each color and I'm kinda just stuck here for now.

thanks,

Shannon

This is an accepted solution.

If your using variants there's no inventory pooling in shopify, nor component inventory system.

You need to at minimum set the inventory of all variants to 3.

Then manually, when orders come in either bulk edit the inventory to the correct amount, or use inventory export/import to update the stock count.

To automatically do it you either need an inventory sync app

, or set up something in shopify-flow to adjust the inventory of variants within a product when a order is created or fulfilled.

Apps like mechanic can be scripted for specific needs

https://usemechanic.com/task/sync-inventory-across-a-product-type

etc

An alternative is to not have variants and instead collect which option(color) they want through line item properties; but this effectively means no images or swatch selection buttons, etc.

Not ideal if you don't know what your doing.

Hi @sdellinger23,

I'd like to suggest a simple solution using the free Easify Product Options app, which requires no coding. This app allows you to create Color (5 colors) and Sleeve (Long, Short) as custom options for your shirt products (3 prints). These options are created within the app rather than as Shopify variants, ensuring they won't affect your shirt inventory 🤗

Here's a step-by-step demonstration to guide you through the process:

  • Start by creating your shirt product and include a Design option with 3 variants for the 3 different designs. Set the quantity for each variant to 1, totaling 3 for your shirt product.

  • Install the Easify Product Options app and set up an option set:

  • Add an option for selecting Colors using either the Color Swatches or Image Swatches option type.

  • Incorporate an option for selecting the Sleeve length (Long or Short) using a suitable display option type like Buttons or any other appropriate option provided by the app.

  • Finally, assign the option set you created to your Shirt product, and you're all set!

The app is incredibly user-friendly and does not require any coding. The free version of the app offers ample features for your specific needs 👍. I highly recommend giving it a try!

I’m just curious if you figured out how to do this? I am very new to Shopify and trying to do the same exact thing. I tried the mechanic app and it’s just so confusing to me.
